Early Check In
Hi,
Long time lurker finally posting.
Anyways I will be going to a concert in Pittsburgh in a few weeks and I will be staying at a Residence Inn. My mom is a Marriot Silver member.
I will make the reservation with her number attached but my main question is this:
I know they say regular check in is 3pm but I would really like to be able to get into my room by about 1pm that day. I will be checking in on a Thursday if that makes a difference.
Thanks for the help.

Welcome your post #1.
In general, 1pm check in should not be a major problem. To be safe, I would call or make a note on your reservation stating you would like early check in.
If it is absolutely impossible for the hotel to accommodate an early check in, you can leave your luggage with the hotel and go out.

I concur. Early check in is usually early AM, 2 hours early is really not that early, and it would be unusual for a hotel not to have a room ready.
That said, RI's have different types of rooms, if you booked one of the type rooms that they have very few of, and they are all occupied and everyone waits until the last minute, then of course you might not get it.
However, I'd be 99.9% chance you get right in at 1PM, especially if you let the hotel know that morning.

1 PM should be a non-issue. I do it regularly.
Early check-in (early morning) is most useful getting off a red-eye - particularly an international flight to Europe. I've had pretty good luck with that, too, depending on the hotel.
I always flag my reservation for early check-in. If it's critical, I also call the hotel directly.

I checked in a few times at 7am and there wasn't a problem at all.
It would helpful to call the hotel the night before and they will know how many rooms are still available, hence, if they are available then you can have one at 7am! They will make a note of your early checkin. Also, get the CSR's name.
It also helps to be Elite as I checked in once at 10am and the person next to me was told the room won't be available till 3pm...another benifit to be an elite -- i guess!

I have nothing but the worst of luck going the opposite way at RI's, a late check out. Time and time again across the country, begging, pleading, playing the PLT card for an extra hour or two it, never works. I've been told the girls (maids) just want to go home...
