Need about 2k - any tips
I need additional 2k points - what can I do to earn them.
I am not staying at Marriott nowadays.

A couple of options:
1. Get one of the Marriott branded Visa cards. Those come with bonus points. There are two versions of the personal card. If you have one, apply for the other. If you already have both, there is also the business card. You can receive bonus points on all three (and hold all three at the same time should you want.)
2. Purchase points. Marriott lets you buy points from them. Usually this can be a bit pricey, but if those 2K points will allow you to order that dream award, then it may very well be money well spent.
3. Find a friend that has 2K or more points and is willing to transfer them to you. Marriott will allow transfers between any two members in order to get the points needed for an award. (Yes, I know the T&Cs state this is only valid for spouse transfers. Marriott will actually allow this transfer between any two willing member accounts though.)
4. Make online purchases through SkyMall or the Marriott Rewards Mall. I think you will normally receive 10 points/$ spent. Details can be found at Retail Purchases
5. Check out Marriott's webpage, How You Earn , to see a variety of ways to earn points.
6. Do a Matress Run for the 2K points. Go on a short hop somewhere cheap and close for a nice night or weekend. And even if you are staying somewhere else for trips right now, if possible, it might be possible to take one or two nights and stay in a Marriott just to get those points.

2K points would cost you $25, you can do over the phone with a MR agent or on the web site.
Points post very quickly. If you take the phone route, the agent will be able to process your points purchase (you may need to sign a form a fax back - you used to) and then the points and award can be ordered at that time.
