Ritz Carlton?

Are the Ritz Carlton still part of the Marriott (family)?

I believe RC award stays was the only part of the recent MR "enhancements" that were not devalued.

But let's keep that to ourselves so that MR doesn't decide to enhance the enhancements....

You're correct. The media are suggesting that the luxury sector has been hit hardest lately--not least because corporations are redirecting meetings away from luxury both to save $$ and accomodate "perceptions".

I would assume the RCs also get some $$$ from the MR pot when a guest uses an award, so they have an incentive right now to fill empty rooms with those who are redeeming freebies.

I looked at a few and the point values are indeed only slightly outrageous instead of absolutely insane as they used to be.

Perhaps, I should have clarified my question... I had booked a reservation at a RC and wanted to know if they were still part of the Marriott chain to determine whether I can count on these nights towards next year's Platinum level.

According to MR, they are a "partner"; and therefore any stays there DO NOT count for nights and points.

Needless to say, it was just as easy canceling and rebooking at a JW.

They don't count, and your status is not honored.

As you have seen, they do not count but RC always knows that I am a Plat member and on occassion a nice desk clerk recognizes that and I have been upgraded for free even though it is not a formal benefit.

I did a search on marriott.com for a "points" stay for Santiago, Chile. The Ritz there didn't show up - why?

Because they are considered Partner Awards.

Log into your MR account.
On the left, click "Use Marriott Rewards Points" then "Browse Hotel Rewards" then "Partner Hotel Rewards". Santiago, Chile is considered a Tier 1 award.

This thread was great timing; I had forgotten the partner rewards. We're attending a wedding at the RC Atlanta and got a room for 45K.

Now I can afford drinks at the bar.
