I was intrigued by the option to specify some type of floor type preference in my Marriott Rewards profile. The choices are:

• High floor
• Low floor
• Near elevator
• No preference

Who here has a strong preference for one of these options and why?

I want a high floor hopfully the top floor. I hate the sounds of people stomping around in the room above me.
Mostly in CourtYard or Residnece Inn.

High floor. I feel very uncomfortable on a ground floor, and recently walked out of the ratty WilmingtonNC CY because the desk clerk would not move me to a second floor room, despite having one available.

Ground floor rooms, in my mind, can be more easily entered because the window is at ground level. In addition, it makes me feel like people can see right into the room. I've been in too many hotel parking lots where, even though the blinds are closed, I can see straight in from my car. (Not to mention how much I can see when I walk up to the window and cup my hand around my eye and the glass to get a better look. Just kidding.)

So perceived safety and privacy are my reasons for wanting a higher floor.

I prefer away from the elevator, because of the noise.

And keep me as far away from the ice machine as possible, please. The goof who gets ice at 3:00am wakes me up every time.

I pick high floor because I want to avoid large groups on weekends (i.e. youth sports leagues, wedding parties, etc.). I stay mainly in suburban areas where outside noise is not much of a factor. However, 20 people deciding to run around, yell, make noise at 4-5 am when I am trying to sleep would piss me off to the point where I'd be willing to commit some serious felonies. Also, I don't like being on the first or second floor because it is easier to gain access at many properties without a room key, especially at limited service ones.

I can sleep through sirens, airplanes, and freight trains. I can hear the planes at the Renaissance LAX (they have good insulation but I can still hear them when I am awake) and can definitely hear the freight train in downtown San Diego (it is quite loud by the Grand Hyatt and Marriott Marina but I slept through that and leaving my TV on). Actually, the sirens by the JW Marriott in SF seemed more noticeable to me as noise, but I slept through that as well in a past stay.

Also, I have a fear of heights, but I can move down stairs quite quickly, so fire does not scare me. I actually prefer to be near the emergency exit, rather than the elevator (reduced noise and a quicker jump to get out if there is real trouble).

High Floor...despite the fact that I always seem to get in a hotel that has fire alarms at the worse times like 3am...like last night at the Marriott Toronto Eaton Center...no fun walking down those stairs...I like high floors for the view.

High floor away from elevator. I hate ground floors. They're creepy.

first and foremost I want the best room.. all things being equal I'm a 1st floor guy and if not put me near the elevator

mostly this applies to FI's, RI's however those few FS Marriotts where first floor rooms are applicable I want those rooms (again barring upgrade to a better/bigger room or club level room if the lounge happens to be open.. if its closed, put me on the 1st floor)

High floor because most conceirge floors / executive floors are at the top of the building, so, its a subtle hint that I might like to be on it Also because I prefer to have a view, and the higher you are the better chance you have of having one

Otherwise I don't mind about the other options as the high floor trumps any elevator closeness etc!

I enjoy high floor, since, as mentioned earlier, it is often the CL. But I like near the elevator if the hotel is big. Nothing worse than walking 5min to your room, through a maze (think Grosvenor House), only to find out the key is demagnetized, walk down to the lobby and back up again. Here goes showertime before heading to dinner...

Also, since the CL/top-floor is usually really quiet, being close to the elevator has never been an issue.

At the JW in KL, the junior suites are the rooms the closest to the elevators for example.

I like the low floor. I hate waiting for the elevator. I like just walking in and going straight to my room. And, I was in a hotel (high floor) during an earthquake in Malaysia and.....well......I like the low floor.

High Floor is must with me.

Usually the highest floor is quiet as that is prefered with most business travelers. Also, no matter what Marriott you stay at (minus the prehistoric properties), they are all at least four floors so your bound to a get a view of something. Even the worst city looks a little better from an elevated view.

High floor, away from elevator for me. In any type of property... I just prefer the quietest possible room.

Yep, ice machines truely suck. At my recent stay at a Couryard in Michigan, the ice machine was broken. Woho!
