No - only platinum members can change their promotion at will (well, by sending an email to the concierge or calling up the plat desk). Even then you then don't really change promotion they just manually add the additional points at the end of the offer period (or when you hit the target). This is just a 'special' case to reward their best customers and until I started reading FT I never realised it was possible
Of course, you could always try and ring up and ask if you have a good reason... don't think it would work though as they are trying to use the promotions to change people's staying habits (i.e. stay more at Marriott!!) to benefit their bottom line, not to give away points for no reason!

Well, some gold members have been able to change their promos, but platinum members will always get a change if needed. If you can't do it directly, you can always ask Marriott Concierge on FT to get it done.

Hi all,
I expect to have a 30 day stay at a Marriott property for work.
However, it will likely be in May 2009.
Does Marriott usually have another Megabonus promotion that will begin after the current one ends?
Not sure if I can move up my work project to the month of April, to take advantage of the current promotion.
Thanks!!!
ND

Hi nachosdelux,
Traditionally Marriott runs two megabonuses a year - one in Fall (Sept-Jan) and one in Spring (Feb-April) which are traditionally the slower months (at least from holiday guest perspective, business guests should still be reasonably reliable) - and so encourages people to stay. May - August are holiday season so, more guests without needing a megabonus to entice them in.
As such - you'd normally not be able to use a megabonus to increase your points. However, in the current economic climate there might be an outside chance that they could run a summer megabonus - I certainly wouldn't bet on it though - I would guess they will just reduce room rates to entice more budget focused travellers (points are only good if you have spare money to spend getting you to the hotel and enjoying yourself whilst you're there imho)

Anybody knows what's counting for this promo, check-in date or check-out date? I'll be staying at a Marriott Jan. 30th to Feb. 2nd...will this count as the initial night for this promo?

djohannw,
It should count for one night (1st) as I had the same issue on the last megabonus in September.
