MR Points while on a group rooming list.

Hi everyone.

This is the time of the year where my travel schedule begins to get a bit crazy and I wanted to know if something was possible.

I work with sports teams and am on the road quite frequently with them.

Anyways, I'm usually on the hotel rooming list with the team. The tab is picked up by someone else in our travel party. Eventually, they backcharge the organization I work at for the room.

Is there anyways I can still get room points when I go on the road with the team even though I'm in a group itinerary? Any suggestions on what I should do? I was thinking about after checking in, then going down to the desk myself and explaining the situation and then showing my MR card to hopefully have my stay posted to it.

And for disclosure, I'm posting this in here because I know I'm staying at a Marriott hotel at least once this coming season.

Thanks!

My (very) few experiences with this indicate NO. The points seem to go to the organizer although I don't see how this possible given the 2 room per night maximum per MR rules. Perhaps it meeting organizer bonus points they get.

You might pickup a few points on the incidentals.

Hope I am wrong or there are ways around it, but I'm not hopeful.

What I have done (at least at non-FS properties) when I'm the organizer is to ask others who are traveling if any of them have MR #s. I haven't been going through Marriott's Group desk as they tend to add cancellation restrictions, but won't reduce the price at all. (So they don't really add any benefit except maybe some more points for me.) Since I can only receive points for upto 3 rooms, I ask the front desk person to add one of the other person's MR# to 3 other rooms, I do this until I either run out of rooms or people with MR#. They normally all will get their points.

So what you might do is ask your organizer if s/he would be willing to have your MR# associated with three of the rooms. Note that I still pay for all my rooms.
