Proactive Reservation?

I found this very odd and wanted to relate my experience and find out if anyone has had a similar experience.

Was checking for a rewards stay for this upcoming Wednesday yesterday for the Renaissance Las Vegas and no availability on rewards was showing up so I booked elsewhere. I did not try calling platinum reservations or MR as I was fine with booking elsewhere. Just now when I logged onto my account I noticed that there was a rewards reservation setup for this upcoming Wednesday night (I did not make the reservation) and that it was only missing a certificate (which I promptly ordered). I also checked through the reservations website and rewards availability is now showing. Is Marriott becoming more proactive in monitoring booking habits and setting reservations up proactively? Seems far fetched but definitely a ^ if this is the case.

I called the property itself and asked them to confirm that it was a valid reservation. They said that it was and seems to have been booked by reservations themselves. I'm not overly concerned just was surprised that what I wanted that wasn't available at the time "magically" appeared

Personally, this would worry me. Since you checked, you are able to cancel your other reservation and keep this new one. But what if you never checked? The system would have automatically pulled the points from your account a week before the reservation and maybe you would have noticed that little action. If not, then you would have been deemed a no show and your CC would have been charged for one night's charge.

I have no problem with Marriott being proactive. It would be great if they saw that I tried to make a reservation, but couldn't and when availability opened up, they could contact me via phone or email to check and see if I still want that reservation. If so, then make it. If they can't contact me, then don't make the reservation as I may no longer need or want it.
