Windsor Marriott and LHR
Is the Windsor Marriott really just 4 miles from LHR?
I found what seems to be a pretty good rate (68GBP) for a weeknight in October before a 9AM flight on LH. If I turned in my rental car the night before is there any way to get to and from the hotel other than the Hoppa bus (I assume Windsor is beyond the free bus area)?

Yes, of course. As a matter of fact planes regulary fly over Windsor Castle at very low altitudes.

I guess I'll just keep the car (prepaid) and spend the 7GBP for parking. While I'd like to avoid the delay of waiting for the Hertz shuttle in the morning it's not worth the 20GBP (x2) that the hotel website says a taxi would cost.

One thing to note about the "Heathrow Windsor Marriott" is that it is neither at Heathrow, nor Windsor, it's on the edge of Slough.
It may be just over 4 miles from Heathrow, but it's also about 4 miles from Windsor, so you'll need transport if you are planning to go to Windsor in the evening that you are there.
I'm surprised that they are saying that taxis will cost 20. I live a little further along the M4, and the 15 mile journey from my house to LHR costs 20-24 depending on the terminal. So I would have thought that you should be paying less than that.
One other thing about taxis. If you decide to take a taxi from the airport, then try and book ahead for a collection with a local company, don't use a black cab from the airport. I believe the fares into central London are controlled, but if you go outside the M25 (which this hotel is) then the prices can quickly become silly.

Absolutely. I agree. I stayed here in 1996, landed Heathrow and paid 35GPB for a ride to a business in Slough all of 5 minutes away. Hotel is fair, parking was tough and I recall paying some significant upcharge for a "room where breakfast was included" according to my travel agent. Well this turned out to only be a CL level room which was closed on weekends. And this was long before I knew anything about CL's. So 2 of us hit the buffet Sunday AM thinking it was included and were charged some 50 GBP. A letter to the GM once I got home and he apologetically refunded the charge.

As mentioned, the hotel is really in Slough. Actually, I was staying there last year when they changed the name from Slough/Windsor to Heathrow/Windsor. Supposedly, it is fairly close to Heathrow's new Terminal 5. So how close it is to Heathrow depends on which terminal you need to be at. (Which I don't think LH flies to Terminal 5, but I could be wrong.) When I was there, we took the bus to the airport. It was much cheaper than a taxi. But I agree that if you don't have to give up your car, I would keep it and return it the morning you leave.
Also, while the CL is not staffed on the weekends, if you get CL access, they don't lock you out. You can still go in a get some water/colas (while supplies last of course.)

Yeah it is really close to LHR.
It has 2 hoppa bus services, one serving T1, T2 & T3 the other serving T5. From memory the hoppa bus numbers are H5 for the T1,2,3 bus & H55 for the T5 bus. T4 is served by a free link between T1,2,3 area & T4.
The hoppa buses are £4 GBP per adult per single journey.
The advantage with the Heathrow/Windsor Marriott is that the room price includes VAT (Sales Tax @17.5%), if you book the LHR Marriott or LHR Renaissance they don't include VAT in the quoted price online or on central reservations.
I think that Heathrow/Windsor charge £7 per day for guest parking, however as Platinum they don't seem to charge.
Also they do some good Park & Fly rates, but if not on the website you'll have to call them.
