Hollow Soap
I can't find a thread on this out here yet...
I'm spending the week at the Marriott Cleveland Key Center (^) after a month long hiatus. I think Marriott has discovered a way to cut back... Both bars of soap are now carved out on the back side. They are substantially lighter while maintaining the same exterior dimensions. I have to say I am most unhappy about this. The bars are tough to grip and I find them to cause water to spray everywhere. :td: Anyone else notice these? randomman |
Was waiting for someone to metion this
I first noticed this on June 6th at the Marriott Washington Dulles Airport. Since then I've seen this at the JW Washington DC, Boca Raton Mariott, Ft. Lauderdale Marriott North, and Harbor Beach Marriott. Figured it was just another for Bath and Body Works to make more money under the the guise of product improvement- what a beautiful design:td:.
Also, finding the soap is slipping out of my hand more than b/f. |
Greenville Marriott last week (and this week) also is sporting the new ergonomical versions of bar soap. :D

At least they are not trying the bulk dispensers as mentioned in this Hyatt thread
I remember some one suggesting this earlier the 'Marriott water bottles vs no bottles' thread. |
Also noticed this in Fremont Marriott last time out.
Personally, I am in favor of the new design... It is easier to handle IMHO. Also, there has to be a ton of soap thrown away from one and two night visitors. If this cuts back on some of that... cool. Not a greenie, but it makes sense. YMMY |
You can always tell the economic condition of a hotel chain by the amenities in the room.
In good times, Courtyard soap was 2 oz., boxed. For a while in the 90s they went 1 oz. paper wrapped, then back to the box around 2000. Today it's plastic wrapped and possibly less than 1 oz. The carve-out is an old trick in the soap business. |
The used soaps are collected from the rooms and then sent back to
a manufacturer for recycling. They are not wasted! |

I highly doubt this is done, but if it were, there's no need to be afraid of recycled soap. The processing would purify it far beyond anything needed to kill any bacteria or virus.

I have not heard of this practice. I looked online and asked counterparts and found nothing.
