Thanks to those who responded. I am told that there is no current referral bonus available.

+1 ^ (sorta) I'm not trying to split hairs here, & SkiAdcock is essentially correct, however for what its worth, the "old" Marriott Referral Bonus (1K Bonus Points per stay, up to 5K for both referrer & New Member) was still active through at least Jan 5th 2009 (if not later...). I was able to refer one colleague on Jan. 1st, 2009, & then another on Jan 5th, 2009.

Then I noticed for the first time on Jan 22nd 2009 the Marriott Website said that "Because of the wonderful response from so many members, we are updating elements of the program and plan to continue the Refer A Friend program in the near future." I wrote to Marriott Rewards trying to get some sort of clarification of their definition of "near future", & of course they responded that they didn't know....

So I conclude that sometime between Jan. 5th & Jan. 22nd, Marriott's Referral Bonus program was put on hold for the time being, but will be back up & running "in the near future". Also, for what its worth, I got a 1,000 Bonus stay from one of the people I referred on Jan. 21st. I will definitely post on here when I notice any sort of sign up Marriott Rewards Bonus being back up on their website.

Hopefully, they don't 'update' it in a downward manner like a # of their other 'enhancements'

Last we heard they haven't started the new referral program yet. Geesh - what's taking so long?

So my advice to people who are traveling soon is forget the refer a member, sign up for MR # & don't forget to sign up for whatever MegaBonus program is going on to get points that way.

Once we find out from the site or MarriottConcierge that the refer a member program is active again, there will be lots of FTers willing to refer (including me ).
