When do nights post on extended stays?

Hi everyone, did a search but did not find an answer.

I am staying at a Residence Inn for 90 days begining today on business. I currently have no status with Marriott and am wondering if I will only get the nights credited to my account once I have checked out in September or if the will just increase as the weeks go by. This will make a difference in the number of total points I would get in the end once the bill is paid, due to bonuses. If the nights only are added at the end then I am considering getting the Marriott Visa card so that I am at least silver and get the 20% bonus points. Thanks for any advice.

You will receive points and stay credit based on when and how often the hotel charges your CC. I would guess that the hotel would want to settle up your account at least once a month. That would mean you would receive points and night credit every 30 days or so. The hotel shouldn't have a problem charging your account at the 50 day and 75 day marks so that you can get Gold and Plat as quickly as possible. Just ask them and they will probably be more than accomodating.

I've stayed on relocation beyond 30 days twice in the past to get a refund on taxes and had a different story. My account was kept open (never checked out) but my credit card was debited each time that balance jumped over $1000. Just because they made a charge, they did not have to close out the room and points. At the end, I had a receipt for all the nights and all the charges. But, that was me.
