Question Checking into an oversold Courtyard

I wanted to make a reservation directly on marriott.com for a certain Courtyard but the website indicates the hotel is full. So, I made a reservation with an online consolidator for the same room.

I got my confirmation number from the consolidator and have been charged the full amount on my credit card.

I later called the hotel and found out that they are oversold by a few rooms for the nights in question. This means that there is a uncomfortably high possibility that no room will be available when I show up.

I have Elite status with Marriott but this reservation doesn't have my MR number so I don't think the "Ultimate Reservation Guarantee" applies.

What should I expect to happen?

ask the consolidator what the Marriott confirmation number is.. pull up your reservation on marriott.com and add your Marriott Rewards number to the reservation.. you might not earn points, but at least your number will be in the system..

Good idea, but there may be no confirmation number:
"Your reservation is part of a Pre-Paid Block and your information on individual reservations will be available at the Courtyard on the day of arrival."

I did this back in November for 3 rooms that I was booking for a business trip. When my night credits had not posted 2 weeks later I called Marriott and was informed that members do not get credits for stays booked through consolidators. Not sure if this is common knowledge but I sure didn't know.

Call the hotel on the morning of your arrival (or even try the night before) and confirm your reservaton and add your MR number. I'd also ask the hotel to block me into a nice room since I'm an elite.

would they Upgrade someone who was on a consolidator res, I would have thought they would treat it as if it was a PL res. BTW can we earn pts even on a PL res for other charges at a Hotel or is everything non-earning?

since the Hotel seems to be sold out, I would imagine that any so called Betetr rooms levels are sold-out as well. since it is a CY not much in the way of Ups anyway.

Not sure about your exact situation; but when I attend a corporate meeting where the room charges are master billed, I still receive points for any other charges -
