Qualified for Gold Elite for the first time

I often see discussions about Plat treatment but very little reqarding Gold experiences. Is this because it is not worth talking about? Receaching 50 nights was very hard work and I am not sure that I want to work at this year. Does anyone have any advise for getting the most out of it since I will most likely not have it in 2009.

Congratulations for making Gold status.

Gold status means the most at FS Marriott hotels. In fact, at FS hotels, there isn't a whole lot of difference between Plat and Gold. Both will get CL access and breakfast. Both will get room upgrades (if available.)

Since the OP just made Gold in January of 2008 doesn't he/she keep Gold through all of 2009 and until early 2010 with the rolling tier for new qualification to a higher level?

I'm considering Marriott as a 2nd hotel brand and may get the credit card to get to gold status. What is FS Marriott?

You are correct if the OP received Gold status this year due to the rolling calendar. But given that the OP just received Gold status, it may have actually been aquired based on stays through the end of last year. We don't really have enough information to definitively state one way or the other.

FS Marriott = Full Service Marriott

Agreed that you'll get the most out your GLD membership at the FS hotels, with lounge access and upgraded rooms. The other major bennies are the Elite Exclusive Offer coupons for B1G1 free nights and dinners at the US based FS properties.

I would also like to know if there is such a thing as a Gold Welcom packet?
Will I receive a new card?
