Problem w/ email confirmations when booking multiple rooms

There appears to be a problem with Marriott's email confirmations in the case when you book multiple rooms online in the same reservation. I recently booked 3 rooms online at the same hotel, in the same reservation. I was given confirmation #8xxxxx116. In the online reservation list, it shows a single reservation #8xxxxx116 and lists it as 3 rooms.

I received a single email confirmation from Marriott. It was for 8xxxxx116. It lists 1 room in the text of the email. I emailed Marriott to confirm that I indeed had 3 rooms as booked. Their response was that they show 8xxxxx116, 8xxxxx117 and 8xxxxx118, each for 1 room each.

This is the first that I'd heard of 8xxxxx117 and 8xxxxx118. I am sure internally, their systems handles it this way using 8xxxxx116 as some sort of "master" record.

However, in my opinion, the email confirmation they are sending is factual incorrect and should be fixed. They should be doing one of two things. Either in the email for 8xxxxx116, list it as 3 rooms, to match how they present it online. Or, send 3 emails, one for each reservation number, each showing 1 room each.

99.9% of the time, this wouldn't be a big deal. But if I print my email confirmation, and use that as proof at the hotel in the very unlikely event of there not being enough rooms, I have nothing that shows that I actually reserved 3 rooms. I typically don't print my online confirmations, using the email confirmations instead. However, it appears that when you book multiple rooms in the same reservation, you might want to print your online record instead, as that is the only one that appears to show it correctly.

I replied back to Marriott support via email. We will see if they acknowledge the issue.

I did exactly this same thing a couple of months ago and I got three separate e-mail messages, one for each room. So either it was some sort of glitch in your processing or they've recently changed the system.

I'm not sure what happened with the OP but, FWIW, I frequently book multiple rooms under a single conf #. Recently, Marriott has been subsequently dividing the single reservation into multiple reservations with separate conf #s. This hasn't affected check-in for me.

The hotels systems can only handle 1 room per reservations while MARSHA can handle up to 24 (or something really close)...what happens is a few days before arrival the system automatically "splits" the reservation into single room reservations and notes the original with the additional confirmation numbers...what happened in this case is immediately upon finishing your reservation a confirmation was sent which is why it showed 3 rooms, I'm assuming the arrival is within the next few days so the record was immediately also split into additional records but it was split immediately after the email was sent.....this is not an issue but how the system is designed to operate

system has always worked this way (even before the internet was around it operated this way) and shouldn't create any issues for anyone
