Gift card vs. Gift Cheque

I apologize if this has been discussed. I did try to search. I found the terms & conditions on the gift cheques. The gift card t&c seem to be vague. The Gift Cheque t&cs state can't be used on certain room types (i.e. promotional, convention, associate, etc.). My question: does anyone know if the same applies to gift cards? Would the same restrictions be applicable or are the truly a "debit card" that works just like my visa card would?

Thanks all!

If you go back in one of my posts you'll find me having a conversation with Chris (Marriott Conceirge). He broke the common preception that we and many employees had (Cheque=cash).

Gift Cards are like cash (assuming you purchased them vs. receiving them as a promotional item). This is protected by law.

Gift cheques are appearantly on provided as a promotional item, thus it is bound by the terms located on the back. (however, only 2-3 issues have been documented where the cheques were denied use).

YMMV
