Bumped Up

My apologies if this has been asked before or is silly to some. I have consistently for the past 5-6 years made Silver, now I just haven't made the 10 required stays but well over that but not been able to get to 50 in a year, points well over 100k . Has anyone been bumped to the next level just for being a good customer?

You can get 15 elite-qualifying nights by signing up for the new credit card. Does that help? If you're further away than that then no, I don't think they'll bump you up because you're not a good ENOUGH customer to justify it.

I have a feeling there are tons of people in the same boat as you. I have never heard of anyone getting bumped up unless they had already attained the elite level (like requalifing for plat if you were short).

MR Credit Card

How long do you need to keep the card active to earn your 15 nights?

Well, I'm pretty sure you have to pay the annual fee and in that case you might as well keep it for the full year.

For many years, I spread my lodging out averaging 40/40/40 at Marriott, Hilton and SPG. My MR balance steadily climbed from 400k to 1MM points and was never upgraded to Gold. Then I consolidated and got PLT. So don't count on any up bumps.

I was bumped up last year, have no idea why. I'm thinking it may have been a system glitch since there was no indication I was bumped up (the materials all said 'welcome and thanks for requalifying, etc'). But Marriott bump ups are pretty rare and I would not depend on it. In my case it worked out for Marriott since I redirected stays after I made Hilton Diamond to Marriott.

I had been Silver for many a yr, MR CC. Then a few yrs ago I started staying at MR alot more. Had an early Dec stay in Chile that was gonna put over to Gold. I called and asked about a comp to Gold in order to get an Upgrade etc, the CSR said No to Gold but said he was Comping me Plat and he did. He wanted the Biz I was giving SPG and HH. Well it worked Ive been Plat for the past 3 yrs, BTW still Plat with SPG and Diamond with HH. If 1 has to go it will be SPG
