I had a horrible experience at a full service Marriott last night and am wondering if it's typical to recycle the chocolate packages that get left on the beds if they appear unopened. Here's why I ask...
As Mrs. Trader and I checked into our room on the C floor last night, the Mrs. was impressed with the little box of chocolates left on the bed. I told her as a platinum guest, I get special treatment and this was just another along with the platinum amenity that I ordered at check in. As my wife is afraid to fly, she has never been to Marriott with me before thus she had never experienced this level of service before.
Just as I was yakking it up on the special treatment, I slid open the 4-pack of chocolates and tossed her the 1st one. I then slid the pack open a little further to see that the 2nd one was just an empty crushed up wrapper. I laughed a bit and joked about how tacky it was and just then, she revealed something worse. As she opened her chocolate, it was evident that hers was already opened and a bite of about 40% was taken out of it and you could clearly see the smooth teeth marks in it. Totally disgusting to say the least!!!
I immediately brought the package to the front desk and asked about recycling and was told absolutely not. I'm personally not so sure.
The manager on duty sent up a bottle of wine (worthless to me as I haven't had a drink in 14 years) and promised me 10k points. I would have asked for the room cost to be covered but it was already a freebie as I was using a cat 5 certificate and it was the last day to use it before expiration. He obviously apologized up and down and stressed the fact that no recycling is done but then couldn't explain what could have happened. I'm certain the person cleaning the room was unaware as she would be hoping for a tip.
Has anybody else had this happen to them?

Hey life is like a box of chocolates but that's not necessarily the kinda surprise you want to get. I've never heard or seen that one tried before and when reading the thread title I thought it was a more bland "front desk chocolates old and hard repackaged for Plat." kind of beef.

Without any proof...I have always assumed the chocolates were recycled...which is why I never eat them.

Jackasses who unsrew tops of salt and pepper shakers and leave them for an unspecting victim aren't unknown.
My guess is that some bozo gets his jollies by slipping partially used items onto to housekeepers' carts.
