Was 12 nights short of requalifying for gold this year. Figured I would be silver. Got a gold card in mail last night with a letter stating that I did not stay enough nights to requalify for gold but that we were renewing at the gold level. Did not expect that.

Strange, I did not drop to Gold. I had only about 24 nights last year. Does this mean they'll retain me at Gold? I do have 693 (a lot of them from triple nights promo after 9/11) nights but only 1.5M points, do don't qualify for lifetime either.

I used to be gold. i dropped to Silver, even though i wouldn't haven even qualified for that. I was offered a buy up to Gold for 25k points.

I was retained at Platinum despite only hitting 73 nights. I guess they correctly guessed that I would have just taken the 23 rollover nights and then done a Platinum Challenge to easily requalify anyway.

I had gotten a survey late in the year about why I wasn't staying at Marriotts anymore (I was probably around 70 nights through September), so maybe someone actually read the comment that it was mainly due to my son being born and not that I had switched brands.

They do this sometimes when you're close.

By the way, you wouldn't have gotten any roll-over nights had you been dropped to Gold. Roll-over nights are nights in excess of what you need to requalify at your same level (in your case, Platinum, i.e., 75).

...
Only problem is you would not have gotten the 23 rollover nights since you have to exceed your year-end status (which was Plat) before any rollover nights would have been earned for 2012. And that's non-rollover nights, so if any were earned in 2011, you would have needed that many more nights.

Congrats on getting extended as Plat.
