The system wont let you check someone into a "clean" uninspected room

Thanks for all viewpoints. Maybe "sneaky" is too strong of a word, but sadly, I've come to expect this of the entire travel industry so I'm perhaps jaded.

Now, I've spent 100+ nights / year in hotels for the last 10 years and the non-daily sheet changing comes to me as a surprise - as the new nationwide default option.

I honestly thought that if the card was there, then yes, its non-daily unless you requested it via the card. But no card offered, then daily changes. But this is too logical.

My point is that I am just not seeing the card as much, if at all lately.

That's what SHOULD happen. Just as the system should not check another guest in and be given a key to your already-occupied room. And what happens at a CY or FI where the housekeeper has gone for the day and the hotel is fully booked so they can't swap rooms?

In reality I have been given ostensibly made up rooms with used sheets and I have had "double-guested" rooms - all at Marriott full service properties. These systems are not foolproof.

With Marriott's newfound pricing power, the "Just like home" or "Save the planet" 3-day linen policy rings hollow.

In London bed linen got changed every night until this year (I was told by a GM that because London rates were so high this was a Marriott policy decision). However in the last few months I have noted the policy has changed and there is the card in the room detailing the 3rd night change unless requested otherwise.

Yup, I'm at Marriott Maida Vale right now and the card is right here.

I'm happy to leave the sheets, if clean, but I like clean towels daily.

I had a real battle at a Marriott property getting the sheets changed each day when I had a respiratory problem & fever.... the card was missing from the room, and it took multiple calls each day to housekeeping and the front desk to get clean sheets. I really wanted clean, un-sweaty sheets each day.

I'd have thrown the sheets in the hall and called asking why my bed didn't have any sheets
