I found the JW in Cancun to be incredible when I stayed there in 2003

Great input, USirritated. It's nice to have a new Marriott poster with a lot of knowledge about properties worldwide.

those of you who stayed at the JW in shanghai...have you seen the secret door in the library??? btw...the library is supposedly the highest library in the world...
the door leads you out to the balcony where you can REALLY get a fantastic view!!! http://images22.fotki.com/v816/photo...MG_3124-vi.jpg http://images22.fotki.com/v818/photo...MG_3125-vi.jpg |
GREAT ELEVATORS service in NYC Marquis!
The elevator service with new programming has been markedly improved at the NYC Marriott Marquis, so it is no longer fair to bad mouth them!
I stayed there in May at a large conference and there was never a crowd or long wait. :-::-::-: I still think the Lounge Breakfast and evening service is one of the best. That has even been renovated. It always amazes me, that Housekeeping from Ny to Rio has forgotten how to make a square cornered hospital or Military bed, so that the bottom sheet stays tucked in ALL NIGHT! The bottom sheet should be tucked in to the maximum at the head of the bed, NOT the foot! :( |
I would toss in a vote for Budapest, Hungary- while the building itself is a bit old, all rooms face the Danube river and the lounge is well-stocked, bright with sunshine and offers one of the best lounge views I have seen.

In reply to R&R ... went to the NY Marquis in July, and yes, the queues still form at times ...
As for a JW, I very much appreciated the Cairo one. Great airport pick-up service, nice rooms by the pool (you walk out of your room into the pool) and a fake beach/wavepool. Great service overall. The only drawback - their limousine service. Overpriced and one morning, the car was full of mosquitoes ... (it's cheaper to call the City Stars hotel to have them pick you up, rather than have the Marriott "limousine" drop you off) Cheers, GenevaFlyer |
Another vote for the JW Shanghai... beautiful hotel in an excellent location.

Anybody who does decided to stay at the Shanghai JW (or anywhere in Shanghai for that matter) should take some time and ride the MagLev train. It is an experience. ^

I have stayed at many of the JW's in Asia when they first came online, like in HongKong, Bangkok, Phuket, Sinapore, and many times at the Bangkok Riverside before it was discovered by everyone else. ^
So, it must be time to add Shanghai to the list after the Olympic masses have subsided. Does anyone know, when the nice warm Fall weather starts before it gets too cold? Have stayed numberous times at the JW in Rio the last 4 years and find the location wonderful, even with the walk to the Metro. It is moderately priced for Rio.. Concierge Lounge could have better food service! Buffet Breakfast at R$52.+ Service/tax seems over priced and going higher as the dollar declines. Rooms are small, but your body downsizes to it. Was another hotel brand before becoming a JW. Will be back in GRU and GIG for a few more weeks stay this Sept. Helps qualify for Platinum and get more respect! :D |
