When my SO checked with Marriott we were told 100% that the CC 15 nights *Do* count towards that year's nights and your lifetime night total.

do free nights using Marriott Reward points count?

Redeemed points nights DEFINITIVELY DO NOT count towards annual elite levels, nor do they count towards lifetime elite levels.

I am lifetime platinum, but my account page on the Marriott website still shows the bar graph charting my progress towards the 75 nights needed to "maintain Platinum level."

Is this typical?

I don't think the website programmers have anything to take into account lifetime elite status since it is an unpublished benefit.

I agree. On another note I wish they would add our lifetime numbers to the website. I know I can email them and they get back to me rather quickly with this information but it would be nice to have it online.

I'm a little disappointed with Marriott. If I had not stumbled across this thread I would not have known to write them and ask. Here's my response....

Dear Joediver,

Thank you for contacting Marriott Rewards regarding Lifetime Elite status. You have been a valued member of Marriott Rewards since 1990 and we appreciate you!

We have an Emeritus (Lifetime) status that offers Elite levels after certain criteria have been met.

Emeritus Platinum status is offered after the following qualifications are met:

Guest has been a member of Marriott Rewards program for 12 years, with at least one year at Platinum Elite.
Guest has stayed 1,000 nights over the history of the Marriott Rewards account.
3,000,000 total points earned during the history of the account.

For Silver, the night requirement is 600 nights and the point requirement is 1,500,000.
For Gold, the night requirement is 800 nights and the point requirement is 2,000,000.

You have accrued 18 years (congratulations), 1,320 Elite nights, and 3,164,379 points during your membership.

There is no way to request this status unless all the qualifications have been met; however, you have already qualified for our Lifetime Platinum status.

You will not actually notice any changes to your account; however, when the time comes to downgrade your account because you don't stay the required 75 nights, your Lifetime Platinum status will take effect and your status will not be downgraded. You are Platinum for life.

We are always happy to assist you with your Marriott Rewards account. Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns.

Thank you for choosing Marriott.

Sincerely,

XXXXXX.
Marriott Rewards

You would think that they would have sent me some kind of notice that I reached this lofty goal WITHOUT my having to ask.:td:

I can understand their motivation. First of all, this is an unpublished benefit. Second, I would think that they want you to stay loyal to Marriott for as long as you can. Third, and as they said, when the lifetime level overrides the published level you will be notified.

While this appears to have been addressed already, I can confirm that this isn't how it works.

I had over 400 nights in 2002, and I didn't receive the kick to Premier.

Not saying you are wrong, but remember that Premier requires multiple years to acquire. So even if you stayed the 400 nights at a high revenue hotel last year, that alone wouldn't get you to Premier.

You appear to have misunderstood me. I was refuting an earlier claim that just a high number of nights stayed would be sufficient. I think that you and I are in agreement on that point.

Sorry about that. Its not the first time I have misunderstood something and I'm sure it won't be the last.

No harm, no foul. :)

srittle001 Oct 21, 2008 1:58 pm

VA1379 Oct 21, 2008 2:09 pm

Hilton does not have a lifetime elite program.
