I suspect I will make it early 2009 or so. I wish they had counted the CYC as I know that is missing. Ce La Vie.

I thought I read somewhere here that the CYC nights were supposed to be counted in the lifetime toal....

This sounds like planning for retirement :)

Funny that you mention "retirement" Northern. I had reason to speak with Bill Marriott's office today, for a totally different reason, very cordial, and while I had the nice lady on the phone, I mentioned my missing room nights credit from way back when, before the consolidation with CY and FI, etc. She told me that one of the main reasons for the LIFETIME status designation is exactly for people retiring, people who were loyal to Marriott for years while working, and want to stay loyal to Marriott in their retirement years, and earned the extras of elite, but no longer will be staying 50 or 75 nights per year, etc. I don't suppose that will come as any great surprise to many or most of the readers of this posting.

Also, she cleared up what Platinum Premier is for me. Definitively, it is top 3% annually by the computer system, of Platinum members.

Finally, she said they would check archives to see if any of my room credit nights are missing from way back when, so I will keep you all informed if they show up and are added.

As vague an answer as we've already determined. How does the computer system determine the top 3% each year?

According to the woman that I spoke with in Bill Marriott's office on Friday, November 2, it is purely based on room nights, not on revenue, and there is no human interaction at all, in order to keep favorites out of it, etc. Top 3% of room nights volume, annually, period.

I can assure you she was mistaken, it is revenue not room nights

Well Socrates, you go right ahead and argue with her about it, but she works directly for Bill Marriott, and I don't think that she got it wrong. I would give her name, but the last time that I put a name in one of the threads, I was told that was against the rules.

I would side with socrates on this one. I have had over 200 nights in a a year when I noticed others on this board with far less nights were upgraded to plat premier and I was not. If it was purely nights annually I should have been bumped up.

She is going to call me this week, so next time that I speak with her, I will ask her to reclarify, with the information that you just gave me, and see what she says. She did say that there were some new guidelines within the last year, so maybe it changed somehow? I will take notes.

In 2002 I had 370 nights (in a Town Place Suites for nearly a year and simultaneous stays at another Marriott and was just regular Platinum

The question is, when did Platinum Premier start? I don't think that it was in existance then, but please correct me if I am wrong about that.

No one is arguing. You, your understanding of the PP program and maybe her explanation are wrong.

"Trust me; I know." I'm a Platinum Premier.

The formula is revenue-based and differs for initial and re-qualification.

I'm also going to bet that she doesn't work directly for Mr. Marriott.

Also wrong.

That's two strikes. One more and you're out.

I've been watching this thread with interest. I don't know what makes a Platinum Premier, but this is my first year to have that designation, though I've been Platinum for several years. My stays with Marriott this year have followed the same pattern as the past few years, so I'm anxious to see if I stay P.P. when next year's levels are determined.

Long ago I decided I wanted my hotel points all in one place, so last year I had about 5 Hampton nights & 5 Holiday Inn nights, and these were only because there weren't any Marriott properties for many, many miles. Every other hotel stay was at a Marriott property. The 30% Platinum & 50% Visa point bumps make it easy for me to justify staying within the Marriott choices. My almost-free vacation trips to Hawaii & NY City are my "reward" for being loyal to one brand.

Now, I just need to figure out how to make my posts appear in their very own color, because I want to stand out from the rest of you peasants ;)

I'm only trying to be helpful - if you wish to disagree please feel free

Soc

PS if her name starts with a P then I believe you that you spoke with his office, otherwise I believe you spoke with Mr. Marriott's Office of Consumer Affairs which is actually located in SLC, if you call HQ and ask for Mr. Marriott's office this is where you are transferred

If my memory is correct it would have started in the middle of 2002
