How easy is it...?
...to make a reservation using points for someone else (my brother and sister-in-law)???
I'm sure people have tried this before.
Are there problems doing this? I have done it using IHG points, but I'm new to Marriott and I'm curious.
tia,

It's not hard at all--- I have treated my sister to about five Marriott points-stays in the last few months. Call the main Reservations number; they will confirm the availability and make the reservation, then they will transfer you to the Marriott Rewards desk to debit the points from your account and issue the certificate. Your brother will need to present the certificate when he checks in; I asked them to mail it directly to my sister and each time it arrived (no exaggeration) the very next day via DHL. We've never had a problem!

Realize that the award will be received as a paper certificate, NOT an e-certificate. Marriott can't yet issue e-certificates in someone else's name. But as dcpatti states, its pretty easy to do.

A better question may be "How easy is it... to come up with a descriptive title?" I'm glad you got answer to your question but it would be much easier to do a search for it in the future if the title wasn't so vague.

It's very easy. I'm a plat, and I've done this for my parents, and for my in laws.
When I've done this MR usually puts a note in the record and they often get upgraded to a nicer room, as well receiving as the platinum amenity.

The bottom line for the OP is: You have to call Marriott Rewards to book this and order a certificate. It cannot be done online.
