Flying Curtains

Ok, I've stayed at more Marriotts than I care to count, and many of they have a flying curtain problem. What do I mean? Well the room has a window mount heat/AC unit and when the blower is turned on the curtains fly out into the room and totally block the airflow.

How hard can it be for Marriott to design curtains or blower "director" vents so that curtains still stay put? I find it very problematic to good airflow in the room, and there are very cheap solutions.

Why can't Marriott get this right?? I'm at a Renaissance in Northbrook, IL and yes, they have honored me with flying curtains!

I don't remember seeing quite that problem too often. My issue with the A/C has been that most CYs put the desk and chair just in front of the A/C blower. If the A/C is blowing cold air and I'm working, I'll freeze before the rest of the room gets cool.

Some do have a deflector, but that tends to cheapen the look of the room. Of course, a PTAC unit instead of central air cheapens the room to begin with.

My trick when this happens: If the room has a thin guest service directory in a portfolio binder style, lean it against the glass on the window sill with the sheer drape trapped behind it.

I often carry my own leather portfolio and it also works in a pinch.

Yes, you are exactly right. I took the Guest Services Directory binder and laid it against the curtains. At least the curtains aren't hitting me while I work at the desk.

Thanks for the idea of holding the curtains back with a portfolio. Good idea! :-:

The "flying curtains" and a/c right by the desk are two things that bother me too!
