Spring break's coming up and we love Maui. I want to retain my Plat status this year.

Which of these hotel(s) do you recommend? (advise / plat upgrade)
1.Renaissance Wailea
2.Wailea Beach Marriott
3.Marriott Maui (Kaanapali)

Thanks.

Depends on what you are looking for.

Ren. is on the quiet side of Maui.
Kaanapali is very busy and good for families. If you want a quiet place this is not the place to go.

Wailea Beach - if you want the Big Island this is the area to go.

Bottom line is that you can not go wrong on any of the choices.

Be aware that the Maui Marriott (Kaanapali) has been converted to a Vacation Club property (i.e. timeshare.) It is now the "Marriott's Maui Ocean Club." In addition, from their web site:

Construction and expansion of the resort from Jan. 1, 06 to Dec. 31, 09. Construction times are 8:00am to 6:00pm including some weekends. No site activities or amenities will be interrupted. Villas may overlook construction site of new tower.

I just got back from Renaissance Wailea last night. I had a great stay with them. I was upgraded to a corner ocean view room upon check-in. The staff are very pleasant and extremely professional. The hotel grounds were well kept. This hotel is scheduled to close sometime in June.

I can't made up my mind about the Renaissance Wailea, got alot of bad reviews from traipadvisor.com like old smelly room,worn-out furnitures, old noisy A/C.

Did they give you free breakfast as a plat status? (since they don't have club lounge)

No breakfast was offered. Resort properties do not offer platinum breakfast.

A more accurate statement might be that Resorts are not required to provide Gold/Plats with breakfast. I say that only because some of them have provided me with breakfast even though they weren't required to.

As per Marriott Rewards T&C... Resorts are exempt from providing breakfast.

Although, some do make exceptions.. The REN in Maui does not. And I personally have never gotten breakfast at any resorts.

You must have lucked out
