Upgrade MR reservation using cash or points

Hi all,

I currently have a MR award reservation for two at Marriott Chaps Elysees, Paris. I am wondering wheher it is possible to purchase an upgrade using points or cash to get a room for three.

Thank you

Unless their rules have changed within the past 3 months, it is possible to get a cash upgrade at the Marriott Champs Elysees depending on availability. We tried to upgrade last October and there were no rooms available for upgrade. Same thing happened there 2 years ago. There is no Concierge lounge (unless things have changed) so it would be a room upgrade.

"it is possible to get a cash upgrade"

I assume it can be done on check-in only.

Not necessarily. When making reservations using Marriott's online tool, I have seen it show me a points stay reservation with a rate code stating that I will be required to either order an upgrade award(s) or pay XXX amount for the room. So it is possible to reserve a "higher" level room (i.e. better view, more room, C-level, etc.) using the online tool. Then you would only need to settle up with the hotel when you arrived. I have seen these fairly often when making points based reservations for beach-front properties where they have view-room upgrades.

Is this true??!!

I was completely unaware of this. A big negative (IMO) if this is the situation.

Yep, it's true. The upgrade would be a room upgrade only. They will give you 2 buffet breakfast coupons.
