one more night for Mega Bonus
I need to stay one more night in a Marriot to get my 35K mega point bonus. The problem is that I have no nights scheduled in a hotel between now and the deadline.
If I make a reservation at a Marriot and just not show up, will I get credited with a nights stay since my credit card will be charged anyway? If this is the case, what's the cheapest hotel in the Marriot Chain to make this reservation at?

I would guess that Marriott won't give you a night credit for a room where you never showed for. They may bill your CC and you might be able to get points for the charge, but I bet they won't give you the night credit. Your best chance is to look at the various Marriott branded hotels around you and see what the cheapest rate is you can get. Usually, the lowest rates can be found at FFI and on a weekend night.
For the last Megabonus promotion, I also found myself a night short. I looked around and found that my company had a special weekend rate at a local CY for about $30. I jumped on it, checked in, but didn't stay the night. I drove back by the next morning and checked out and received my night and Megabonus points. ^

You dont have your location in your info, but you can always book a room in local area where you should be able to find great offer around Christmas or the first week of year.
If you have visitors check in a room and invite them to spend one night there. You just go and check in the room and give them the keys.
Some areas have coupon books for roadside travelers for walk-ins or other offers like 50% off Entertainment rates that may be widely available around Christmas with its usual low occupancy rates.

I live in Northern Virginia - near washington dc. Looks like the cheapest rates I can get is $79/night. Pretty expensive for 35K points. That's why I was hoping to make a reservation at the cheapest marriot in the country and just not show up so that my credit card might be charged with one night.

The Courtyard Dunn Loring has been having $59 M11 rates but didnt find it on 3 dates I tried. Courtyard in Gaithersburg has a LPR for Realtor Relocation rate at $49 and they also are in the 50% off Entertainment card program.
Most of the Residence Inns are in the 50% off Entertainment direct with hotel as well, Herndon and Arlington listed.
With any special rate you would just want to check it in before 4 pm and that way if there is problem you just cancel the booking.
While a no-show would not work I imagine that there must be some owner of a Fairfield Inn or Town Place suites out there that would check-in a prepaid room for the night and then check it out in the morning. December is a tight month for many hotels.
You are probably in one of the least sensative market in the country though with all the gov. military and leisure stays to fill up hotels with.

I have done this before, not to get nights credited, but more because T/A forgot to cancel a res. I can tell you that you will NOT get credit for a no show...NO POINTS, NO NIGHTS!
Happened 3 times to me. (all Canadian stays) Now I have a new T/A---MrsPhillyPhlyer40

To the OP: you think it is expensive to pay $79 to get 35,000 points? That is enough points for one night at a category 7 hotel. Most of us value Marriott points at a penny per point.
Realistically, the DC area is your best bet for getting a cheap room since Marriott has a lot of properties there. The wintertime is low season there since tourism drops off during this part of the year.

Hold on 1 minute.
Is the OP saying that between now and 1/31/07 they have no plans for staying 1 night at any Marriott.
Unless I was sent a different time period , I could swear that the Mega B runs till 1/31/07. As my orginal intent was based on being short 6 of the 20 that I was going to do 3 more in '06 and the last 3 in 1/07 since I was short only 3 to requalify for Plat in '06.
Then an unseen event took place and I had an 8 night stay. so got the 35k all done in '06.

Courtyard Tysons Corner Fairfax is also $59 on the M11
Buy some bonus bucks on E-bay for 33 cents on the dollar and pay it that way.

Not really. Those points would cost $350 if bought from Marriott. And will get you 1/4 of a week at a Cat 6 property that might run $2000 or more a week.
