Post SpringHill Suites issues (PDX)

I’m in Portland Airport SpringHill Suites (Oregon) this week.

This is my first stay at a SpringHill Suites and I’m experiencing some “difficulties” and wonder if this is normal SpringHill Suites standard?

* First, I was brutally awaken at 4.00 AM by the buzzing alarm clock. I’m suffering from jetlag and this was a very unpleasant and surprising wake up. Maybe I should have checked this before going to bed, but I was counting on the hotel to do that for me?

* Later, waking up more pleasant, I went into the shower. It was quite disgusting to find four *big* black hairs all over the bathroom, most of them in the shower. How could anyone possibly have missed them?

* As a bonus yesterday, I found out with a running nose, that there were only two Kleenex in the dispenser. Not really what I had expected, but no big deal.

What’s your experience from SpringHill Suites? Is this hotel seriously missing quality control, or is this the standard?

A dirty bathroom is not a brand standard for SHS. Sounds like a bad property. In general SHS is on par with CY quality with a few differences:

1) SHS has free continental breakfast in contrast to paid full breakfast at CY.

2) SHS has larger rooms with a Kitchenette (mini-suite format).

3) Unlike some CY's, I have never seen a bar at a SHS.

YMMV....

P.S. I use to be a big SHS fan in general. During the business week I still am a big SHS fan. On weekends, they tend to attract a large number of families and can get to be on the noisy side. Breakfast room also tends to get overrun. I have also experienced the same problems with RI’s on the weekend. So I have started booking CY's on weekends for more tranquility. I can afford to pay for breakfast for my family. It is worth it to have a more serene atmosphere.

Thank you for all the clarifications!

Hope so too. I did send the GM an email for about 40 hours ago. Wonder if she ever answer? Doesn't seems to have very high priority from her side? I wanted to give her the first chance, and if I don't get any answer today, then I'll forward that email to [email protected].

I would hope this was an isolated incident. I stayed at this property last year and can't recall any problems worth mentioning.

The couple times I've stayed at Springhill Suites, I've found it more on a par with Fairfield Inn rather than Courtyard. The furnishings are pretty much cheap Fairfield Inn quality....

I actually got an answer...

Thank you for bringing to my attention the condition of your room your first night. I have been speaking with the housekeeping manager and staff to work on resolving your concerns and making sure that they do not spread to other rooms. Please except my apologies as I can assure you this is not the standard in our hotel. I hope the rest of your stay has been better then the first night and that the rest of stays interaction with the staff here at the SpringHill Suites has been better.
I like the phrase "and making sure that they do not spread to other rooms", whet ever that means. However, I'm not sure that she read my whole email and I'm not really convinced that I'll return. There's a Courtyard 100 feets away and I'll probably play safe next time.

I have stayed at this property before, and have never had a problem. Must have been bad circumstances...

I hope so too! Besides the yacky bathroom and the thing with the alarm clock (hate that) it seems to be a pretty new and nice hotel.

Hope the manager really ment good with "making sure that they do not spread to other rooms".
