Marriott and Avis?

Marriott and Avis?
When renting a car from Avis, there is a choice to get miles/points on almost every airline and hotel (HHonors and SPG for example) program. Except Marriott Rewards. Is there any particular reason why Marriott and Avis don't cooperate?

Hertz is the only car rental partner with Marriott. The two companies have an exclusive partnership with each other as Marriott is the only hotel award option at Hertz.
