I am currently staying at the Athens Marriott Ledra for a few nites and the executive lounge here is closed until Jan 8. I was informed at check-in that I could have the complimentary breakfast in the hotel restaurant (which is actually a billion times better than the executive lounge's spread anyway). When I went to the restaurant this morning to have the breakfast, I saw there was a printout of all the guests that were Platinum on it. There are just 5 of us. I was at the top of the list and under a column titled LEVEL, it said P6. What does that mean? Everyone else on the list was P5 or M1. Just curious if anyone else has ever seen this before. I did a search of this forum and couldn't find anything, although I vaguely recall something being posted about this in the past.

P6 is an indication of your Platinum status. The associates will know that you're a Plat from these codes. X4 and X5 are also Platinum indicators; which is another rank altogether.

The different ranks between the Platinum levels are basically indicated by the P6, X4 and X5. X4 and X5 refers to Platinum Premiere and Platinum 5 Star, respectively. Nope, the number 6, in P6, does not refer to the number of years that the member have been a Plat.

Y1 : MR Basic
M1 : MR Silver
X1 : MR Gold

So P6 ranks between X1 and X4? Is this system designed specifically to confuse new Marriott employees?

X1 use to be Club Marquis Black, X4 was grandfathered Club Marquis Black

My husband works for a Marriott and he tells me that most of the front desk folks don't refer to those codes at all. Apparantly Platinum is Platinum to most of them.

Well, an X4 earns one a place in The Daily Packets with a V1 status.

The "grandfathered" Club Marquis Black cards were invitation only, typically by a hotel General Manager or above. They were offered for a few years before the Black and Platinum cards and levels were added to the Marquis program.

I got mine from the General Manager at the LAX Marriott, whose name I can no longer remember. He had been there a long time and was good friends with Mr. Marriott, Sr. I met the GM a few times in my then regular visits to L.A. When I told him how much I traveled and my history with the Club Marquis program, he "nominated� me without telling me ahead of time. I got the card about 18 months before the 50-nights Black Card was introduced.

I certainly felt special and was treated special when I got it. The perks: an unpublished number to call for special services, a very nice room service gift and a best-of-house room, typically a suite. In those days, all of that was quite a big deal.
