Pts vs Miles--Which one?
Im a relatively new MR member who has about 7-8 nights coming up at Marriott properties for some work travel. This will all occur in October, but unfortunately the nights were paid w/ my coporate AMEX and thus no double pts. That said, Im a NWA WP member as well and am wondering if it makes sense to just earn miles and bulk up my NWA account or earn pts.
From starting from scratch, earninbg say 20K MR pts would take me a long time as these nights will get me about 8,000 pts...vs about 8,000 NW miles.
Does earning miles make the most sense? Can I earn MR pts and still get the standard 500 miles for "staying" at a partner hotel?
Curious what the xperts do here. If anything, I fly more than stay at hotels, so an airline reward would seem to be more valuable to me....

I think the key question here is
Are you planning on spending a lot of nights in a hotel? Or is this going to be only a few random nights.
If you're going to be spending a significant amount of nights in a hotel then I would definitely recommend Marriott Points. However, if this is only a few random nights then sticking to the miles may be the wiser option as getting ~20,000 marriott points will only yield a single night in a Category 4 hotel.

Thank you. I agree with that thought and will earn miles. 20K MR pts isnt going to get my anything. At most, for 2005, I will spend maybe 10 nighs at a hotel this year. My company is a huge fan of the 1-day trips (i hate them). Leave at 6 am, back home by 9 pm. It sucks, so when thats the case, I try to get out of traveling.
