Lisbon Marriott Trip Report (5 Photos)

Lisbon Marriott Hotel

Recently had a ten night stay with Lisbon Marriott (June 17-27).

The hotel is close enought to the airport only about EUR10.

Keep in mind this hotel was an existing local hotel for many many years and only came under Marriott brand about 24 month's ago. I mention this because the mentality of staff is still stuck in the pre-Marriott days!

Check-in was quick and Platinum gift selected was port wine with cheese tray. Upgraded to room on an executive floor (16th). Room was rather small and A/C only operated if you left your key in slot next to door. Which means room is HOT everytime I returned. Quickly called for another key to leave in slot at all times. Waited half an hour no one showed... called again and finally had key 45min after first request. Problem was everytime I had my room cleaned housekeeping would take my key with them Resulting in having NEW keys made everytime. (happened 3 seperate times each with a promise it would be the last)

Lounge located on 17th floor. Staff member RUI very helpful and one of very few at hotel that could speak and understand english. Breakfast was your typical selection, nothing served hot except toast. Evening snacks included a good selection of free wine, beer along with juices, bottled water and two hot selections. Nuts, fruit, chips coffee & tea were also avail.

Fitness Centre was a BIG dissapointment very hot no A/C along with shortage of towels. Was told it included free weights... NADA! Complained and was told the fitness centre was "under-renovation" When I asked when would it be completed I was told no ETA as owners of hotel did not want to spend what Marriott wanted on fitness centre. OKAY...

Called down for adaptor for laptop over a span of 20 minutes I must have called 4x each no answer. Finally got someone and when inquired about the poor telephone service and why did I had to try 5x?... no apology, just "I am busy and by myself" When I requested adaptor was told to come and pick it up at business centre because she was all alone and could not bring it up. I asked if she could find someone she said no one was avail.

As guest on executive floor you receive free internet service in business centre. Was charged each time. To get credit I had to speak to manager even though it was their own policy clearly posted in business centre.

Very poor handling of replacement credit cards sent UPS from Canada. Tracked package on-line and clearly showed delivered along with signature of hotel employee. Misplaced package and only found it the following day.

Dinner at Citrus restaurant service was very slow and the buffett each night was Italian. (It changes every month) Price was EUR19 and included as much as you can enjoy wine (red & white). When I asked if I could have apple juice instead of wine I was told I had to ask manager... In the end they did trade the grape juice for the apple juice Good value but only so much Italian food one can take

All in all the hotel staff need further Marriott training as some are not willing to look outside the box. It seems every situation needed a manager.

Would not stay at hotel again due to the above and plus the location was not all the best to see city unless you wanted to go to the zoo which was about a 5 minute walk away...

Only + is the hotel has a nice pool.

This is not uncommon in European hotels. Virtually always, all you have to do is put something that fits into that slot--it doesn't read the room key, you're just breaking a contact. So I just leave one of my business cards there, and I've always brought enough that I can afford to lose one to the cleaning staff every day. It does mean that I might come back to a hot room once a day, but at least not every time.
