So far this year, have only received one suite upgrade from a full service marriott, however, courtyards seem to enjoy upgrading me, especially when they have suites on the property. Since about a year after the suites not included policy implementation has anyone seen any changes??

I have found that even though they are not required, some properties still upgrade plats to suites if available. If not started, it would be interesting to get a post on properties that do and dont. This year for me
MSP downtown = Yes
Columbus (Dublin) = Yes
New York Financial District = No

As a gold, Columbus Marriott North upgraded me to a suite. It was approx. my 4th or 5th stay there in 6 months. So that probably had as much to do with it as my status.

Hmmm - lot's of folks staying in Columbus? I've been at the Dublin Marriott (Columbus NW) about 20 times in the last year and was upgraded once, when they had mixed up my reservation and had to scramble for a room. It required a supervisor to approve. The staff is great, but I would say upgrades are very scarce.
Ren downtown Columbus - nothing in 10+ stays - I don't know if they even have anything during the remodelling
Looking at my account activity over the last 2 months -
Somerset NJ - nothing
Bridgewater NJ - nothing
Chicago Miracle Mile - nothing
PHL West - nothing
NY Marquis - nothing
NY CY TS - nothing
IMHO, no changes
I can tell you about my suite at SPG last night though....

Well, poor little me stays at a Fairfield Inn 150 nights a year, and about 80% of the time they put me in one of their "suites". It's not deluxe by any stretch of the imagination, but it's bigger than what I get as a Diamond at a Hampton Inn, has a micro and fridge, 70 channels, etc.
I'm quite satisfied.

I've been staying at the Marriott London Kensington the past 6 weeks or so (I highly recommend it against other London 4* Marriotts) and they have upgraded me to the Executive room every time. I would guess it's about twice as big as the normal room, which is nice around here.
But since this thread is about suites... that's only happened once. I was given the Presidential Suite last week on a night the hotel was overbooked. Quite nice.
I have a Gold level colleague who was upgraded to one of the smaller suites on another occasion.

Ironically enough I've gotten suites some of the time after the 'no suite' policy took effect. Never did before. BUT - I don't expect them - and actually never ask for them, unlike others. I figure if I have a decent room & access to the exec lounge I'm a happy camper. If I get a suite even better, but never expect it & that works for me. I'm not into the 'I'm entitled' thing. Cheers.
PS - I deliberately didn't mention which hotels upgraded me to a suite in case it turns out to be a problem for them. Might not be, but just in case.

Yes, I get upgraded frequently to suites.
Call me strange but I actually do not like being upgraded to a suite.
Every time they put me in a suite or a "multi-room" room, I tend to put stuff everywhere and it takes me forever to pack up and leave.
I have left clothes, cell phone chargers, books and belts in rooms that were larger than the standard room.
So the next time you see me in line, ask me for my suite. I will be happy to trade....

Rennaissance Munich is good with suite upgrades
Several FTers stayed at the Renaiisance in Munich for the FT Do. The hotel was very good about giving suite upgrades for golds as well as plats.
