elite or pay concierge floor?
So I arrived late (around midnite) and asked if I could be upgraded to concierge floor (I'm silver - new job). I've been to this location about 4 times and usually get on this floor or am given access to lounge.
The desk clerk says - Sure - that will be $20 extra. I was surprised and said I'm usually given this free as an elite member. She said no, this location always charges the extra. Too tired so just said ok
I don't have any of my old bills so don't know if this charge has been routinely added and just not mentioned.
Any ideas??

When travelling as a silver, there were some hotels that I stayed at frequently (when the silver threshold was higher) that they recognized me and occasionally upgraded me -- I was happy as I knew it was not the norm.
Also handy at that same hotel, was the staff at the lounged that recognized me, and even on non lounge stays, could stick that foot in the door and look like I should have been there.
Easiest .. hit gold.

Hmm. Well I have never personally heard of Marriott staff even offering to charge for lounge access. Depending on that length of stay the free breakfast might make up for it so I wouldn't quibble over it. However, as has been said before, conceirge level access is a priviledge, not a right (even though Gold & Plat might forget this...).

I have stayed at properties where, as a Silver, I've been given an upgrade on one occasion, and on other occasions, not been given the upgrade. Since I know as a Silver I'm not entitled to one, I view the upgrades I do get as a pleasant surprise and don't question it when I don't get one.

Of course, if you intend to stay there more times throughout the year, I would mention that, as well.
