No Upgrade Possible
I just found this when I was reserving a room at the Ren in AMS.
Is this situation in the Elite rules?
*ECONOMY ROOM WITH SINGLE BED! *EXCL BFAST *INCL SVCS *NO UPGRADE POSSIBLE *MAX 1 PERSON PER ROOM

WOW.
That's a new one. No upgrade and only 1 person in the room. I've seen in other European hotels where they limit it to two or three and after that you have to pay additional for each additional person in the room. Never just one person with no possibility of an upgrade.
I'm very curious as to what responses you'll get. My fiancee' and I are looking to go the the AMS Ren next year.

Yes, while single occupancy rate occur throughout Europe at almost ALL Hotels, it also occurs at quite a few Marriott properties in Europe too. There are single room rates at many Hotels, and at some like the AMS Ren they have single rooms; whereas others they have regular double occupancy rooms at single occupancy rates. Garmisch-Partenkirchen Ren $115 for single occupancy whereas same room for 2 is $160. Now, there are other Marriotts, like the Heidelberg Marriott, where the rate is the same whether it is single, double or triple occupancy.
tpasol, you and your fiancee will not run into this problem as you will not be booking a single occupancy room.

The first time I did get the small room. I didn't mind because it was a quick stay and I was by myself anyway.
The second time I was upgraded to the concierge floor without question (I was Platinum both times), so if they have room they may upgrade anyway, but I would not count on it.

Thanks -- there was only a small difference in rate for a normal room (~20 EUR). I was going to go for the normal rate anyway, just in case they follow the rules.
