Marriott New Delhi
I have a few questions about the Marriott Property in New Delhi. Any help would be great!
Has anyone been there? Any opinions? Any other suggestions? Is it worth th 20,000 points for one night?
The rewards CSR thought that taxes on the room for one night was about $50, which would have to be paid in addition to the points redeemed. Can anyone confirm if taxes really are that high for a one-night stay?
The room options were king size or 2 twin beds. I think North American Marriotts have 2 full size beds? Is this just a difference in terms, or are the beds really twin size as defined in America?
Is there a shuttle service from the airport? If not, what is the best way of getting here?
The reservations was made in my name for 2 guests using points from my MR account. However, if my guest arrives earlier than me, will they let them check-in if I call the property and let them know?

I have stayed there a couple of times in the past six months. Its an ok property, but nothing compared to the JWM in Mumbai.
I have been able to get a US$120 a night rate both times, so your call if that is worth the 20,000 points. I don't recall the taxes, but $50 is very high and I probably would have remembered that.
I had only had king beds, so cannot comment on the two fulls.
The hotel is kind of out of the way, it is South of the main tourist areas, e.g. the red fort. My office is in Gurgaon which is about an hour away in normal (i.e. very congested) traffic. If your business is in Gurgaon, I would recommend the new Hilton Trident property. I have not stayed there, but I have had lunch there and it was a beautiful hotel.
There is no shuttle service to the hotel, but the hotel arranges for a car to pick you up as I understand it. I always have a car and driver the entire time I am there, so I have not used the hotels service. (You may want to check into this, it is very inexpensive).

I'll echo the previous comments. I spend a lot of weekends at this hotel because of the nice spa and pool (usually I stay at the Maurya Sheraton for business...the Marriott is a nice change of pace for the weekend). Never paid more than $120 per night, taxes are about 20% above this. I don't think it's worth 20k points. The hotel is not really convenient to anything in Central Delhi.

Is this hotel convenient to the airport? We are planning to again travel to India in December and the Sheraton has terrible reviews on Flyer Talk's Starwood board. Also there are 3 room choices--$325, 375, and 1000/night excluding taxes.
We would be flying in to stay one night then heading out in the early AM, but we will return for 3 nights near the end of our 2 week stay. Do they have a conceriege level?

They do have a lounge right off the elevator on one of the upper floors. I only went in once or twice. It was nice, but nothing special.

Out of all the "international branded" properties in DEL, the Marriott has consistently the lowest rates. It's sort of out of the way, being in the Saket/S. Delhi section .... but you need a car to really see DEL anyway.
The lounge is decent and the hotel is relatively new -- like 4-5 years only (at least as a Marriott). The only complaint I have is that on certain days and at certain hours getting a taxi there may require a wait.

Is this hotel still open? I cant seem to find it on marriott.com.

The hotel is still open but it has not been a Marriott for about a year. It was always kind of an anomaly in that it is owned by ITC Welcomgroup, which was (and is) the Indian partner of Starwood. It was rebranded last year to "Welcomhotel New Delhi" and again a few months ago as the Sheraton New Delhi. The other ITC property in Delhi (and several others throughout India) have been "promoted" from Sheratons to the Luxury Collection.
