New Year's Eve posts to which year?
I'm checking in on DEC 31 '04 and checking out on JAN 2 '05 for a two night stay. Do both nights get counted as credit toward a) 04 status, b) '05 status, or c) one night toward '04 and one night toward '05?
I am saturated for '04 and would personally prefer b).
Better yet, how about d) we get to choose?

Since I stayed at the Vail Marriott last turn-of-the-year from Dec 27 '04 to Jan 18 '05 I know the answer. You get the nights stayed in 2004 credited to 2004 and the nights stayed in 2005 credited to 2005. The night of December 31 counts toward 2004. Therefore the answer to your quesiton is "c".

Has anything changed here?
If I have a stay from 29 December until 2 January, will I get three nights in 2017 and one night in 2018? Or do all four nights count in 2018?
And which year does the stay credit apply to?

I have the same question. Looking at qualifying night definition SPG indicates it's based on check-in date, while Marriott does not seem to have it defined.
I'm looking to get a one-night stay Dec 31 to Jan 1 credited for status this year.

Nothing has changed. If you check in on Dec 31, stay the night of the 31st into Jan 1 and check out on Jan 1, you stayed a night in 2017. If you check out on Jan 2, you will have stayed one night in 2017 and one night in 2018. No change.

I had a stay last year from 12/30/16-1/2/17 last year and went back and double checked how the nights posted:
12/30-12/31 &12/31-1/1 both posted to 2016
1/1-1/2 posted to 2017
