Type of room on stay using points?
I have an award reservation at the Renaissance in Amsterdam over New Years. My reservation says "Quality Room", but when I check availability the hotel only shows "Economy Room" that states single bed. Will they stick me in one of these rooms that I assume are less desirable? I really don't want to sleep in a twin bed! How are award stays treated by the hotel, good or not so good? (FYI - this is actually the first time I have cashed in MR points.)

I think it depends
I think it depends mostly on the property. Overall, I have been treated very well when staying on points, but then again Marriott almost always treats me very well. I'm a plat premier and my last stay on points was at JW Desert Springs in Palm Desert, CA. I reserved a basic room for a weekend. When I checked in, the desk clerk called the Night Manager who introduced himself and was very gracious. I felt like a celebrity. The desk clerk told me I had been upgraded but when I got to the room I found that they had given me a suite that consisted of a regular room connected to a space equal to three additional rooms that had a couple couches, TV's, a wet bar and a dining room table that seated 10.
Twice in Phuket I reserved a basic room and was given an upgrade to Terrace rooms. JW Cancun upgraded me to a beautiful oceanfront suite as did the Cancun CasaMagna and Puerto Vallarta Casamagna on other trips.
Other times at other places I've only recieved the room I reserved but I've never felt like they've given me the worst room in the house. I hope your stay turns out well for you.

Did you select a bed preference when you booked the award? With about a dozen award stays under my belt, I have never received less than my preference, and never treated 'badly' for being a reward stay, rather than paid. So I would guess you will be just fine. Let us know if not!!!

I've never been treated less well on an award stay. In fact some of my best upgrades have come on award stays.
I'm sure mileage may vary by property. Any specifics in this regard would surely be of interest to the rest of us.
