Upon calling and reconfirming a reservation I had at the Salt Lake City downtown Marriott the check-in agent informed me no longer are suite upgrades a part of the program.
I went onto the website and am sadly proud to announce the fellow is correct. Here it is straight from the MR website itself. How sad to see them doing this. Surely they will lose many with this policy change.
"
Room Upgrade
When you check in, we'll upgrade your room whenever we can at no additional charge. Suites not included. Not available at Marriott Vacation Club International or Horizons by Marriott Vacation Club.
"
Oh and let me further enlighten you with the so-called upgrade policy update for Gold and PL. Here is a good one for you all.
"
Room Upgrade: Suites not included; upgraded accommodations at no additional charge. Based on room availability and limited to a member's personal guestroom. Not available at Marriott Vacation Club International or Horizons by Marriott Vacation Club.
"
Excuse me then what are they even upgrading you room to, a better room with a taller toilet to _ _ _ _ in!
So there you have it ladies and gentleman in a porcelain _ _ _ _ bowl. Be prepared to accept the dingy old standard rooms they offer with a foam mattress pad or pay the price for that suite you/I used to get and only then upon occasion.
There seems to be no loyalty incentives anymore with Marriott brands. I have been with them 15 yrs. now and PL for 7 of them. Oh well hopefully they will see the error of their ways, WHO KNOWS!
For me Marriott is going

Actually this policy is "BRAND" new from Marriott
Actually there haven't been a bajillion remarks on this topic because it's a new policy release. If I'm missing them then I gladly appreciate your guidance as to where they are.

Calling Upgrade Me!!
I would remove that smiley face because you are dead wrong. For someone who is new to this forum, that is no way to make a positive mark here.

Thanks for the information as I was unaware of this decision by Marriott.
Could you enlighten me on this topic also? I have been told that $1 US is really only worth 100 pennies, 20 nickels, 10 dimes or 4 quarters. Is that really true?

By the way, continue in your own fashion, the way you post, as you are doing wonders for your reputation here on FT's Marriott board, as the above responses from my colleagues indicate.

As a new poster, please do not be discouraged by the rather unpleasant responses to your posting. You did nothing wrong.

Irony...
The irony is that I have been upgraded to suites more often since they changed the policy, than before. My suspicion is that Marriott is trying to implement the old customer service philosophy of exceeding expectations. If I don't expect a suite and then get one I am happy. On the other hand, if I expect upgrades and rarely get them I am upset. Hilton handles their upgrades the same way.
Don't get me wrong -- I hate the policy. Upgrades are very important to me. I constantly waffle on shifting my business to Starwood or Hilton where it seems they are more consistent (although certainly not perfect).
