Marriott Rewards Visa
I am a newbie of Marriott Rewards. I need help from the experts here. Is that any way to get comp to Silver status? Any real benefits to get a Marriott Rewards Visa? I already have a UA MP Visa. Would you choose: Points or Miles?? I won't stay in Marriott this year; but I will spend about $12k for the X'mas party in Dec.
Thanks in advance!

I'll try to help.
My understanding is you get automatic silver status as long as you hold the MR Visa. Although if you never stay at Marriott, I am not sure silver status is worth much.
Definitely take the points if you stay. They are worth a lot more than the miles and frequently they have promos which are only good for point earners.
Finally they are giving 15K points when you get the card which is 5K more than usual. Also the fee is $30 a year but waived the first year. You get 1 Marriott point per dollar charged to the card (3 points per dollar charged at Marriott properties).

I just applied for this card, based on a e-mail from Marriott, It also offered a free nights stay in addition to the 15K points. Thus you get almost 3 free stays for getting the card. Not bd.

It seems to me that in the OP you asked our advice as to whether or not to use a hotel earning c card or an airline one. (Unless there is an airline bonus)I have done far better at redeeming my hotel points than in getting free airline tickets. I have saved a fortune on many very expensive hotels - that's the only time I redeem. I think free hotel rooms are far easier to get than free flights.
So, I concentrate my spending on the Starwood AMX and the MR Visa. I use my airline c cards only when there is a bonus involved.
