MegaBonus- Value of Points?

I will have nine nights when the promo ends. I was offered 10 nights- 20,000 points. I only use my points to exchange for miles in NW or AMW. I could check into a local Marriott for 1 night (not stay- bad hotel) and, thereby, get the 20,000 points. From a value standpoint- does that seem to make sense? I already have 125,000 points to exchange but should have the same within six months.

BTW, any idea when they will offer an exchange bonus? I once was able to exchange points for miles at a great exchange. I was waiting for them to do that again. Thanks!

Sorry, I should add that I would pay $75 for the room the extra night.

Have you thought about getting a travel package instead? IMO, a much better (value-wise) use of points. In this circumstance, you could value each of those 20K points as one mile/point and figure your cost-benefit accordingly. If I were looking at it this way and needed one more night for the 20K, I'd take it.

BTW, the hotel portion of the travel package is good for one year and generally can be extended for one year without charge.

Thanks for the suggestion. I looked at the travel packages and it appears that 20,000 points would go a long way. I am so used to using points for miles, I never really looked at the packages. Since I am now Elite on two airlines through 2006, I will stop worrying about miles and get a travel package.

I've never heard of this travel package. Where can I find info about it? I didn't see it on Marriott website.

If you're not intending to stay there, why not go with the cheapest property available. I got a lot of my nights at Courtyards and Residence Inns while traveling with my son's baseball team.

That's not quite correct. You will get the 20K points PLUS the points from the extra night you spend. So closer to 21K.
