Using Two Free Night E-Certificates for Same Night

Hello everyone,

I have a question on using two Rewards Free Night e-Certificate for the same night for two different parties with two separate rooms. We currently have two of the Free Night e-Certificates (one expires November 2, 2018 and the other expires April 27, 2019). They are both under my husbands Marriott account. (We used to have the Marriott Rewards Visa; he was the primary cardholder and I was the secondary.)

What we are hoping to do is take a trip with another couple and redeem both these certificates for the same night for two separate rooms. I searched Marriotts website (and FlyerTalk as well) to see whether this would be allowed or not and could not find anything. I vaguely remember reading something in the past about the Marriott member having to be there to check into the hotel when redeeming the e-Certificate. My husband would be there to check into the hotel but one of the rooms would be on behalf of our friends. Has anyone encountered this situation before and know whether we would be allowed? I was planning on calling Marriott tomorrow but thought I would ask the experts on FlyerTalk first.

Thanks in advance for your help!

I've never used certificates. But couldn't your husband just make a reservation for two rooms and select the two certificates as the form of payment?

I'd be surprised if the online tool would "see" the certs as usable. Normally the online tool won't allow linking of the certs unless an individual cert can satisfy the full requirements for the reservation. But a MR customer service agent should easily be able to use both certs for a single one-night, two room reservation.

And to answer the OPs question, yes, as long as the named person on the certs is staying in at least one of the rooms, you can use the certs for each room.
