Are 2018 Status up yet?
I have been PP last few years and had 150+ this year.
Account says Platinum Elite, but knowing Marriott IT, not sure I trust it. So was I downgraded or is that it? |
You've been busted down to regular P. It was a very similar thing when they busted me a few years ago. No notice, but a lower level showing online. Here's the thing: there's no difference between then when I was PP and now when I'm just a regular P/LTP. Of all the things one could lose in life, this is about the least significant.
|
In years past, Marriott status has lasted until sometime the last week of February. Did your account say it was PP, and since the new year has been changed to Platinum?

What does the mobile app show?
|
I've been Platinum Elite for the last 3 years. Changed jobs and don't travel as much and only had 34 nights last year. Just checked and it still has me at Platinum Elite with 0 nights for the year. Would love it if they kept me there for another year. Anyone have experience being downgraded? Does it happen a little bit later?

Hotels Resorts | Book Hotel Reservations Direct with Marriott |
Mobile show PP still so guess will have to wait until people start getting this years gift to see if I made it again or not.
Not much difference but as a FF, it is all about having the status :) |

I cant speak for the other parts of the world, but here in Asia there are actually front desk staff and room managers that understand the difference between X4 and P6 when ugrading Ps the night before checkin of course that all comes down to proper training

Not surprised by the lack of ay upgrade at the Singapore Marriott as its probably one of the stingiest for upgrades regardless of whether youre X4 or P6 - “maybe” they treat X5s better but I doubt youll have any of those folks posting on FT !! Since the CY Bangkok really have no suites, best (largest) room is a family room on 15th Fl behind the elevator bank, but in general I’m surprised that you a least didn't get a higher floor room as before Killian left for the Meridien they were pretty pro-active for elites.

I am 100% on UGs in Asia as a PP and P/LTP except for the Singapore Orchard Rd Marriott (one stay) and the Bangkok CY (four or five stays, no UG). One hotel where I stay frequently told me, without my asking, that it is still in their system to treat me like a PP, although I don't think there is much difference between PP and P.

Online via browser and the legacy website: still shows my 2017 nights and point totals and still PP. Via the (Android) app: 0 nights this year (2018), my available points and my status as PP. Just one PP's input. David |

197 butt-in-bed nights in 2017 (185 revenue)... status now shows Platinum Elite ... not sure if it's an IT glitch, but I can't fathom that I missed PP after having it for the last 2 years with fewer nights per year. 2017 was the most nights in a Marriott bed than any other year in my career.
|
I'm still showing as PP, but with a 12-year record low of 45 nights for 2017, I suspect I will be down to Lifetime P pretty soon.
|
It’s not only number of nights but revenue over those total nights

Since PP is an unpublished level, has there been any specific announcement or other indication that Marriott is continuing PP for another year? If so, do we have reason to believe (or know) that the (re)qualification criteria are unchanged?

I was downgraded from PP today to P. |
Are you sure? It could be a beginning of the year IT glitch of some sort.

Maybe they are doing away with the status as a whole?.... no announcements to validate this speculation of mine though. |
Hark! My 2018 status appears to have just posted. It's now showing my 15 nights from my credit card. However, question: I stayed in a Marriott 12/30-1/1. Shouldn't the 2 nights count towards 2018, since I checked out in 2018? It appears Marriott credited them to 2017.

https://www.flyertalk.com/forum/marr...osts-year.html The linked thread above has some examples. |
Since statuses are supposed to be valid through February, why would the status now be any different than the status on December 31, 2017? I guess if a stay on New Year's Eve was night number 10, 50 or 75 for 2017 then that would have an effect. But shouldn't all of the statuses stay the same until March 1?

Someone posted a question a couple days ago which had been posted previously, so I found the old thread and posted a link. In the old thread, someone quoted a passage from the T&Cs, but when I checked the Marriott Rewards T&Cs the wording had been changed. I posted all of that in the other thread. What I didn't post: there were now references to the "Marriott Ambassador" level which I never remember seeing before. I know there is another level above PP for which if you have to ask you don't qualify, but I don't remember it being called Ambassador. Might that be the replacement for PP, being carried over from SPG, and might the qualification be more akin to the stricter secret Marriott PP requirement than the relatively easy present published requirement for that level at SPG? |
There are some rumblings that ambassador (formally known as Concierge Elite program) is for the top 1%. However, from what i've read, it just seems like an addition of a dedicated concierge agent and also heard that non PP people participated in the program.
You can read a previous thread here about it: https://www.flyertalk.com/forum/marr...m-premier.html There's even an FAQ on the program: https://www.marriott.com/marriott-re...ncierge-faq.mi Hopefully they will sort this out before they launch the new program. |

I had 177 nights total this year (140+ BIB) and it looks as though I did re-qualify for PP again. Still not sure what, why or how after being PP for 3 years running (I was demoted once back down to LTP 4 years ago, but was PP for 2 years prior to that).

Account says Platinum Elite, but knowing Marriott IT, not sure I trust it. So was I downgraded or is that it? You were/are a victim of the crapsite that's Marriott's trying to migrate to. Decided to access the crapsite just now (usually I make a 180 and avoid it at all costs, but for FT...). Voila, as you found, I too am showing up as a simple Platinum as well (and no 2018 nights so far): https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...f05b201fee.jpg Going back to the legacy website, I'm still a Platinum Premier, but with the nights from 2017: https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...74f1486adf.jpg As is current on the UA MP forum, friends tell their friends to avoid the crap: Avoid Marriott's crapsite and get better info. David |
OT: Marriott is not the only one suffering from new and improved, totally unusable website disease. It is contagious and IHG has it as well. Everything displayed in very large fonts, similar style but in IHG colors to the new Marriott site layout. Many functions don't work properly unless you force your way back to the legacy website. Wonder if both Marriott and IHG outsourced the development of their new websites to the same vendor who specializes in bad UI design and shoddy implementation. End of rant....

Its the friggin move to display everything dumbed down to phones & tablets like windows 10 IMO. Ponderous. OTOH when I was demoted from PP to LTP it was late Feb. Or ask what they see at next checkin. Too many elites is the root of the problem, see thread about getting PLT despite being way short. The bubble is going to burst....

I just checked the various Marriott account web sites. I was PP in 2017, and had similar patterns as last year so would expect to be PP in 2018 (but who knows).
As of just now: iOS App thinks I'm still PP, and shows 2018 nights-to-date. Regular web site thinks I'm still PP, and shows end-of-2017 nights earned. Mobile web site (in chrome on iOS) thinks I'm regular Platinum, and shows 2018 nights-to-date. Is anyone who's been "demoted" seeing it anywhere but on the mobile (non-app) site? Are ANY PP's seeing their correct status on the mobile site? Of not, I strongly suspect this is just a glitch with the mobile site not knowing about the existence / being able to display PP. In any event, since status is good to the end of February, any demotions are clearly premature. |

Unfortunately, there is no single source of data on many internet apps. Seems they each retrieve data and store in a "pre-processed" format for their own quick use. Until all the sweeps are done, the month of January is a scramble to determine the true state of your account. And that's not to mention the random adjustments that may be granted (i.e. gifted status) along the way. So, unless you have a critical event coming up, sit back and see how it all plays out.
BTW: My status is back to PP as of this morning. |

For what it's worth, Marriott.com shows me at my year-end 2017 night count whereas the Marriott mobile application displays 0. Both say platinum-elite.

My understanding is that not every PP got a concierge and some Plats who aren't PP did get concierges.
If the rule really is 1% versus 3% for PP, then these percentages are being calculated from different numbers. Well, if you believe published reports there were 54 million members of Marriott Rewards at the time Marriott bought Starwood, which had 21 million members in its SPG program (source: Marriott-Starwood Merger: How Reward Points Will Be Affected Money). If 3% of the 54 million members are platinum-premier, that's 1,620,000. If ambassador is the top 1% then there are 540,000 ambassadors. Both of those numbers seem incredibly high. So, surely it's 3% of elite members. But how many elite members are there? |
