Does anyone know if rewards nights get the 2,000 Points? I have a rewards stay that will be my 3rd in the series (first 2 stays paid) and I’m wondering if it will trigger the 2,000 Points. I read the fine print and I couldn’t find anything about rewards stays.

Never mind, I answered my own question - I recombed through the terms and conditions and found this. "ExecuStay, Marriott Executive Apartments and Marriott Vacation Club® owner-occupied weeks are not eligible for credit and nights spent while redeeming an award are not eligible for credit." I overlooked it the first time because they stuck it in the same line about vacation club etc. and I thought at first that didn't apply to me.

I saw the splash add after logging in - couldn't sign up
I saw the FB add on the Marriott FB page - couldn't sign up

Call or email Marriott Rewards. They will enroll you in the Megabonus promotion. It is fairly common for each MB promotion, that a glitch prevents a small portion of MR members from signing up on web portal. Marriott Rewards will be glad to assist you.

The current SPG promo seems like a much better deal than the Marriott promo, unless the stays are extremely short and cheap.

Say your SPG stay is $150 pre-tax. eg 1 $150 night or two $75 nights. $150 × 3 points per dollar × 2 double points promo = 900 SPG points, which are worth 2,700 Marriott points. The same stay at a Marriott would only get you 2,000 Marriott points.

My stays are typically Mon-Fri or Mon-Thurs stays, with spend around $750, so seems like the simultaneous SPG promo is much better for me.

Using your USD 150 scenario, I thought the calculation should be better for Marriott if staying at full earning properties (not extended aka reduced point earnings properties)

Gold
SPG >> 150 * 3 * 2 + 250 = 1,150 (3,450)
Marriott >> (150 * 10) * 125% + 2,000 = 3,875 (4,875 if weekend)

Platinum
SPG >> 150 * 3 * 2 + 500 = 1,400 (4,200)
Marriott >> (150 * 10) * 150% + 2,000 + 500 = 4,750 (5,750 if weekend)

The Marriott Promo is 100% better then Starwood! I just do one night stay's never any longer! I know people think it is a pain, but if you are staying in the same city for a couple of day's the best way to maximizing your posts is be hotel hopping!

I think your SPG math is slightly off? (150 * 3) base and elite + (150 * 2) promo double + 500/1000.

I would think since it is a known issue that it would be wise to "fix the glitch" instead of the unnecessary calls and emails.

I confess I do not look at how the actual (Double / Triple) promos stacks up
Hopefully I got it right now.
Thanks!

Interesting. So for plats, Marriott is always the better choice by 1,000 points. But for golds, Marriott is only better under $700 and SPG is better over $700.

This looked a lot better for SPG when I thought the elite bonus was also doubled.

Are you guys not taking into account the 1:3 SPG --> Marriott transfer rate?

We are, that’s why the values are similar. (The ones in my chart are in Marriott points, even in the SPG rows)

One more factor to consider.
If this is a multiple nights stay in a property that offers points in lieu of housekeeping, SPG gives 250/500 Points (750/1,500 Marriott) vs Marriott 250/500 points for each night.
So a two night stay with declined housekeeping will move the needle towards SPG.
For Business trips, I typically opt for points and can do without housekeeping.
For Leisure trips when we travel as a family, opting out is not an option
