Changing reward nights to no availability dates?

Hi, I have a question to ask someone who knows the Marriott reservation system well. I reserved 5 night hotel from Dec 23 to 28 using Marriott rewards points. Due to some plan changes, I much prefer to stay from Dec 22 to 27 using rewards points at the same hotel. The system shows the night of 22nd is available but the night of 26th is not available anymore for rewards, so I cannot reserve from 22 to 27 directly.

Im guessing if I cancel my original reservation then the night of 26th may become available so that I can reserve 22 ~ 27th, but I am afraid I might not be able to reserve either once I cancel it. Does anyone know how this works or any suggestion? Thanks!

Call reservations and ask them to do it.

First of all welcome to FT! There are a couple of routes you can take to resolve this:
  1. Trying calling reservations. If you get somebody good, they maybe able to assist. But beware, for some reason some of the call talkers will only see what you see (Dec. 26 is not available) and will not understand what you are trying to do. You can try asking for a supervisor and see if they are able to help.
  2. Call the hotel directly. Ask for the front desk supervisor or the rooms manager. They should be able to help.
  3. Reserve Dec. 22 on points. After you do this, call reservations ask them to combine the two reservations and drop the last day (Dec. 28).

Of the three, I have personally used the last method several times to make reward stays work and not had a problem. Good luck!

Regards,

RIP...

In the hotels in which I worked, neither of these people would be able to fix this problem. These positions are part of the Rooms Department, which essentially handles the operation of the hotel. They would handle this issue for same-day arrivals (or possibly a day or two prior).

Anything reservations-related issues in the future are the domain of the Sales Department. To reach someone at the hotel that might help here, call during normal business hours and ask for the "On-Site Reservations Office".

Of course, not every hotel will have the same structure. But, where I worked these demarcations were rigid.

The third method is definitely your best bet. I would avoid any method that involves cancelling your existing reservation for the 26th. There's no guarantee that your cancelled night would revert to an available award night.
