Amenity Fee

See some hotels that are not Resorts are now charging this fee.

Here is one from the Stanton Marriott (SOBE):

A daily destination Amenity Fee 17
dollars per day will be assessed to each room

Destination fee includes the following
* Enhanced High speed internet access per stay
* Unlimited local phone calls per stay
* Two (2) bottled water in guest room per day
* Two ( 2) beach chairs per day
* Bike rental (up to 2 hours)
* Beach/Resort toys (Giant Jenga, Chess and Connect Four,
Cornhole, Frisbee, Paddle Tennis, Ping Pong, Fooseball and More)

Blue Moon (not even on the ocean- Several blocks away)

A fee of USD 15 added to room rate includes 2 beach chairs, beach towels, bicycle rental and more!

Anyone notice this recent trend?

The Stanton doesn't surprise me because I thought I had heard somewhere on FT that they were possibly headed in the direction of becoming a resort anyway. But Blue Moon scares me because if they are doing it too then perhaps the Winter Haven is next and I was hoping to return there in the future. This type of nonsense is exactly why I chose Winter Haven over the Stanton last time I was in Miami, and avoided SOBE Hilton properties altogether. The question is will the fee apply on award stays.
