Marriott wedding
My daughter is considering having her wedding reception at a Marriott hotel, can I pay for it using my Marriott credit card? And will all the money spent get me 5points per $? plus the 2 points as a marriott preferred guest? And will I get credit for all the rooms that are booked through the wedding block?

"You'll receive:
Maximum rewards of 50,000 points (3 points per $1 USD) or 15,000 miles (1 mile per $1 USD) with one qualifying event
Points for each room night, regardless if you or your guest is paying for it
10 Elite Nights when you book 10+ guest rooms for at least one night
Instant Silver Elite status or Elite Night credit towards your next level up
Working with a colleague? You can split your earnings up to 50,000 points if youre both Rewards members."
(the 50k are on top of room-based points)
so, say, for a wedding with 100 people staying in 50 rooms, you'd get
- points for 50 room-nights
- 50k bonus points as long as the event costs 16.7k+ (which, with 50 rooms and wedding planning, it might?)
- 10 Elite night bonus
Not sure on the CC spend, but you SHOULD get the 5p/$ on your entire spend - don't quote me on this though
You'll get points for all the rooms booked, but you'll (pretty sure) only get elite-qualifying nights for up to 2 (or 3? I don't remember what the maximum of consecutive rooms-stay-credit is)

Yes in addition to that mentioned above, you do get the 5p/$ on the card as it is billed through the Marriott hotel.

Congrats on the impending nuptials.
Am I the only one on this board who for a brief second was so jealous of the mountain of points that I actually thought, "I want to pay for a wedding so I get all those points?"

Meaning if you spend $100k on the event and another $100k with the rooms, you will still be limited at the 50k points maximum.
I could be wrong and anyone who knows for sure or can confirm should jump in.

I could be reading this wrong, but I think it is 50k points total for the entire event, inclusive of the rooms. Meaning you don't get the 50k + room points.

The two things are also listed separately on the website leading me to think that they are indeed two separate benefits... one based on rooms, one based on spending.

Yes on all these. Prior to my wedding, I had been pretty loyal to Hilton. I had my wedding at a Marriott and got so many points, that I had no choice but to change my loyalty to Marriott. It really is a great deal.

Although better than nothing, i would not justify willing to pay thousands of dollars out of pocket just to get the points. Not rich, so other people can pay for their crap lol

I obviously can't confirm, but just based on what it says, I believe it's both. It seems like the 50k points based on spending is a "bonus", like, "the bigger your wedding, the more thankful we are you're hosting it with us". The rest is just "normal" rewards (points for rooms, but extended to ALL rooms of the booking), so it wouldn't separate Marriott from other chains as much - the 50k are likely added "incentive" to chose Marriott.

I heard back from our account manager as I have always only received 50k max points for events including a $2 mil event I just did. She confirmed it is 50k max per rewarding event, but ultimately up to the hotel to post. This means in some cases hotels may post incorrectly or understand the rules differently and you will receive more points.

I'm having my wedding at a Ritz and it's my understanding I have a 50k point max. If the rooms got counted as well I would be absolutely giddy, we have about 125 nights booked so far by our guests. Unfortunately I don't think that's the case. If I had known I would have put the rooms and the wedding on two separate contracts!!!
Based on F&B charges of $25k and the 50k meeting points I'm estimating 175k points (picked up a Ritz CC just for this purpose and been getting 5x points)
