Springhill Chicago O'Hare review:
A group of fellow RUSH fans was seeing the show at the United Center. I have already seen them once on this tour and tickets were north of 250 bux for nosebleeds, I gave the show a pass. However, most of my friends from around North America decided to see the Chicago show, so I decided to go for the pre-show party!
Good: Once you're in the lobby, lovely room, Wi-Fi is decent, Outback Steakhouse next to the lobby was delicious.
Not-bad-but-strange: There is limited surface parking, with a below-ground structure entrance a block away. Access to this is a garage door/room key setup, which took about ten times to work. Then the basement-to-elevator access needs the room key again, with the same lack of immediate success.
Landscaping needs something to be desired, I think the hotel is new but I don't know how new. It's not a reflag, though--one of my friends told me it used to be an office building!
I didn't need the shuttle, but some of my friends who flew in to ORD called it "Halley's Comet" because it arrived every 76 years...

I think I did a review on the property a few years ago (maybe in the O'Hare family thread; can't remember). If I can't get Renaissance Suites ORD for a decent price, SHS ORD is my back-up. Rates are normally reasonable, especially on weekends.
I always found parking in the surface parking lot, so haven't experienced what you did re: the underground.
Staff is quite friendly/helpful. I managed to get a nice upgrade each time I was there to one of the corner suites, which are much larger. Too funny re: the shuttle. It ran pretty regularly during my stays (other FTers flew in & took the shuttle). I drove each time, but I think the nearest blue line stop is about 5-10 minute walk. I don't remember it being one of the brand spanking new SHS, but I don't think it's old either.
Cheers.

There are a couple Marriott properties I also try before the SHS. One is a block from the casino. The other is pretty close to there, too.
The one thing I'll add about the SHS is make sure you do not get a room directly facing the highway. There is a big, big difference in the noise coming in to the room. The hotel is very close to the highway. (Part of that strange parking lot thing.)

In terms of the landscaping, do you mean the surrounding area or right near the front door of the property? The hotel takes up probably well over 90-95% of that particular lot.
If you are referring to all the dirt around the area, they don't own all that and thus cannot do any landscaping. There use to be a ma and pa type hotel next door which was demolished and they were supposed to build a new property there with conferencing facilities; however, that was abandon when DOT announced plans to try to ease congestion and accidents at that intersection. They still have everything torn up in that area as they rebuild Cumberland/Higgins and eventually be adding a new lane in each direction on the Kennedy with new fly over ramps to Cumberland and eventually trying to connect 190 with Tri-State Tollway....it's projected to save us just over 1 minute on our commute!!
Good property though....have stayed a few times especially when I have an early morning flight at ORD as it's a quick walk to Blue Line which runs 24/7. Usually cheaper than the Ren and Marriott that are right there.

That was my first 'repurposed' SHS--usually I stay in suburbs and in fairly new builds. But yeah, once I got inside it was typically great service...they knew all about the multitude of RUSHeads that had descended upon them. :-)
