Question Platinum Premier - a reference point

Just received my 2014 mailing and it has a 'Lifetime Platinum' physical card in it.

Which was disappointing, as it signified I had lost my 'coveted' Platinum Premier status !!

Being obsessed with spreadsheets, I looked back over my last few years 'Bums in bed' stats :

Year 'Bib nights' 'Bib Spend' Outcome
2010 101 11,229.05 Promoted' to Platinum Premier
2011 97 10,321.08 Platinum Premier Retained
2012 112 11,768.37 Platinum Premier Retained
2013 89 11,287.38 Platinum Premier Retained
2014 97 10,272.01 Demoted' to Lifetime Platinum

I'm not a statistician, so cannot comment on whether the 'outcome' is related to the Bib spend.

However, I would say that the reason for the decline in the last 2 years, was a conscious decision to move 15-20 nights/year to Starwood to achieve Gold Status.

So I guess the real hypothesis to be tested is :

Marriott PP > Marriott Platinum + Starwood Gold

I am fairly sure that few would support this hypothesis ?

I received my lifetime plat card as well, but my status online (including my "mobile" card) is still platinum premier.

You sure you didn't renew PP status?

Definitely only a lowly Plat now

Initially, when I checked after receiving the mailing, I also saw PP status online, but a few days later it started showing 'Platinum' status

My pattern mirrors yours, when I was promoted to being demoted last week. I was surprised to make it in the first place and maintain it and really surprised I lost it now. I surmise they were very loose in giving it away during harder times and now what to scale it back. It really meant nothing except for throwing it around in advance when requesting upgrades on vacations...

Is there really a difference between Plat and Plat Premier? I know it's a hidden designation but has anyone 'really' experienced different bennies?

I too was "demoted" to lifetime Platinum this week.

Is there a difference? Only at certain business hotels that understand that 120 nights annually at 70+ different hotels means that I choose who gets some of my US$18,000 annual spend at Marriott.

These hotels give me open suites, especially for one night stays, and will often upgrade all the members of my team to CL.

Otherwise, I barely see any difference at all between the Silver checking in front of me and my check in.

That was my point. As there appears to be no difference between Platinum & PP, I felt it was a better to divert 15-20 nights to maintain Starwood Gold rather than attempt to keep PP.

Wise choice. Especially since there's no guarantee those extra nights would have kept you at PP in the first place. Other than possibly giving you an edge over a Plat (if it came to that) for an upgrade, I just don't see the sense in trying for it, not that I would turn it down if I made the cut.

I think your biggest mistake was not putting 25 single nights to SPG and getting SPG plat

then you would have

MR PP < MR Plat + SPG Plat

Any chance they put a bullet in the non-status altogether?

I was Platinum Premier in 2013 and 2014 and due to no Marriott hotels within 50 miles of where I was working last year although I showed 172 nights only around 15 where actual stays and the rest rollover.

Last year Marriott did show a link for benefits on their website but looks like it has now gone.

So I am now just Platinum Lifetime are we sure Platinum Premier still exists?
