Hi all - thanks for the tips.

I've looked into it, and it does appear to be through a third party (i.e. I select the room/hotel on the conference website and pay the conference organizers).

SkiAdCock, I hear what you're saying, and I'll give it a go, but I guess I don't have a ton of confidence since I am paying the organizers of the conference. Thanks!

Are you actually paying the organizers for the stay or are they just requiring a credit card and/or deposit when you do the booking on their website?

I've attended many conferences/conventions where I booked through the organizers site and needed to provide credit card and/or deposit at time of booking, but the bill at check-out was paid by me & showed the entire amount due (or the amount due less the deposit) and I received points/night credit for everything.

If it works like that you should receive points/night credit. If you're paying the conference organizers & they're paying the bill/master billing, then you wouldn't get the nights/points credit. However, in both instances you would get elite bennies. You would just need to show your elite card at check-in.

Cheers.

Actually it's not done to ensure you receive the group rate....it's done so the group can claim credit for the room night generated

Every contract may be different, and not being aware of how the group rate was discussed/paid/set-up, etc can impact.

I just signed a contract with Marriott for a large event, and as the meeting organizer receive the 50k max, but also said we would negate all MR points for our guest rooms if they provide to me 8 Platinum status levels to hand out at our discretion, comp our staff rooms, and provide staff all suite upgrades. This would mean that our guest rooms, regardless if they put their MR# into the reservation, and also opt to pay for their guest room via their own credit card, will receive points for the guest room.

The terms in the contract and on the rate indicate they don't. You would have to find out the details of the rate code and what the group discussed with them. It could go either way (last contract I signed, if master bill, guest doesn't receive points, if they pay personally and use group rate, they could receive points. This was because we didn't opt for "concessions.")

I appreciate that input, but as many posters have said, after probably hundreds of bookings at conference rates, thru various channels, I have always gotten points/nights.

Earn points when using conference code?

I am attending a conference and the rate code is giving a significant discount. I am wondering whether I would receive points for the stay as usual?

The URL to book is https://aws.passkey.com/g/XXXXXX

We had the same question come up within the last week or so with detailed answer(s) provided. I PM'd the mod to merge this thread with that one.

PS - the link above doesn't work.

Cheers.

Looks like the actual code has been altered. XXXXXX not a valid entry?

The final criteria will be if the conference has negotiated MR benefits away in order to get better rates/perks. Naming the conference may get responses for previous attendees (given it hasn't changed). Otherwise, you need to ask the organizers if they took away benefits.

I have always received points when attending conferences (where I paid for the room) even when the room was discounted.

Sorry for not being clear. I swapped the actual code with XXXXX. It was meant to just illustrate it is offered thru Passkey.
